Nita Strauss is a force— artistically, musically, and technically as a guitar player. “Hurricane Nita” can be seen on stages performing material from her new album Controlled Chaos, alongside Alice Cooper on sold-out tours, and as a founding member of The Iron Maidens— a stadium-filling all-female tribute band. She’s known for her fast playing, ferocious tone, and detail-rich approach to her genre and artistry.
Ibanez Nita Strauss JIVA10 Signature Electric Guitar
Strauss’s commitment to her vision is what fuels her creations. When Ibanez approached her to build a signature guitar, she already knew what she wanted it to be– from the name JIVA (which means life force) to the “Beaten Path” EKG inlay that runs the length of the fretboard. Watch Nita demo the details of her signature Ibanez JIVA10 and discuss the process of creating her dream guitar.
Track Deconstruct | Mariana Trench
With the JIVA, Nita Strauss recorded her first solo album. Self-produced and tracked mostly on the road with her Universal Audio Apollo Twin, Controlled Chaos is a tour-de-force of impressive playing, dynamic composition, and musical storytelling. Strauss takes us through the track “Mariana Trench” which is the deepest part of the ocean. She discusses the techniques she used to create the feeling of pressure in her playing, and we hear from mixing engineer Mike Plotnikoff about how he translates emotion to EQ when working with an artist.
