Hal Leonard

collapse expand iconDescription

The Real Books are the best-selling jazz books of all time. Since the 1970s, musicians have trusted these volumes to get them through every gig, night after night. The problem is that the books were produced and distributed, without any regard to copyright law or royalties paid to the composers who created these musical masterpieces.

Hal Leonard is very proud to present the first legitimate and legal editions of The Real Books ever produced. You won't even notice the difference, other than that all of the notorious errors have been fixed. The covers and typeface look the same. The song list is nearly identical. And the price for this edition is even less than the original! Every conscientious musician will appreciate that these books are now produced accurately and ethically, benefitting the songwriters that we owe for some of the greatest tunes of all time!

Great Book

This is a great book and essential for any jazz player. You wont find many pros show up and pull out a fake book and read that as they play. Includes rhythm chords and melody. Add your own solos and you have all you need for a two guitar duet. They only reason that it got 4 instead of 5 (i would give it 4 and a half if i could) is because there are some essential songs that they left out like bags groove and watermelon man.

Useful for getting the basic notes and chords.

The book is fine and contains a lot of good tunes with easy to read notation and chords. The only major drawback is that I need the lyrics to a lot of these songs and the book does not contain lyrics. I should have thought of this before making my purchase.

I love the Real Book. I lost my original a long time ago (probably loaned to someone and never got it back). So, I'm gla to have found this one. Some different tunes than the original, but that's okay!

Excellent fakebook. The chords aren't 100% correct, but its probably 95% correct.
