Yamaha

collapse expand iconDescription

The Yamaha P-225 88-key digital piano combines authentic acoustic piano feel with advanced digital features in a compact, portable design. Featuring Yamaha's Graded Hammer Compact (GHC) keyboard action, this model replicates the nuanced touch of a traditional piano, offering weighted keys that cater to both beginner and intermediate players. The CFX Premium Grand Piano voice, sampled from Yamaha's flagship concert grand, delivers a commanding sound with rich tonal depth. Virtual Resonance Modeling (VRM) enhances realism by recreating the resonances of strings and the piano body, capturing the subtleties of acoustic performance. With intuitive controls, Bluetooth audio, and Smart Pianist app integration, the P-225 provides a modern and user-friendly experience for players seeking authentic touch and tone. Its streamlined design makes it an excellent choice for home use, rehearsals or live performances.

Graded Hammer Compact Keys for Authentic Feel

The P-225's Graded Hammer Compact action offers a weighted keybed designed to emulate the touch and response of an acoustic piano. Lighter in the upper register and heavier in the bass, this action supports proper finger technique and dynamic control. The compact design maintains a realistic feel while saving space, making it ideal for players seeking an authentic experience in a portable form. Whether practicing intricate classical pieces or performing dynamic contemporary works, this keyboard provides the tactile feedback needed to express nuanced performances.

CFX Premium Grand Piano Voice for Superior Tone

The Yamaha P-225 features the iconic CFX Premium Grand Piano voice, delivering the same tonal richness as Yamaha's flagship concert grand. This sampled voice captures the instrument's powerful bass and sparkling high notes, ensuring a balanced and expressive sound. Virtual Resonance Modeling enhances the piano's authenticity, replicating the complex interactions of strings, dampers, and the soundboard in real time. These advanced tonal capabilities allow players to bring depth and realism to their performances, whether practicing at home or playing for an audience.

Smart Connectivity for Modern Musicians

With Bluetooth audio and USB to HOST functionality, this model integrates seamlessly into modern setups. The Smart Pianist app provides an intuitive interface for controlling the piano's features, accessing additional voices, and recording performances. Yamaha's Rec'n'Share app lets users capture and share their music directly to social media platforms, streamlining the creative process. This connectivity enhances usability, allowing players to explore new possibilities and elevate their learning and performance experience. The streamlined design ensures that these features remain accessible without overwhelming the player.

Compact Design With Reliable Build Quality

The P-225's slim, lightweight construction makes it easy to transport to gigs, lessons or family gatherings. Despite its portability, this digital piano is built with durable materials to withstand the rigors of regular use. The included half-damper pedal enables greater sustain control, supporting expressive dynamics during performances. Its reliable engineering ensures consistent playability, while the compact form factor makes it an excellent choice for players with limited space. This combination of portability and durability makes the P-225 a practical option for musicians who need authentic feel and tone in a flexible design.

Designed for Intermediate Players and Beyond

The Yamaha P-225 88-key digital piano offers beginner and intermediate players the tools they need to refine their technique and expand their repertoire. Its Graded Hammer Compact keys and CFX grand piano sound provide the realism required to develop expressive playing, while Bluetooth and app integration add modern convenience. Lightweight and easy to transport, this piano is perfect for small gigs, lessons or casual performance settings. Experience the authentic feel, rich tone, and portability of the P-225 today.

So far so good after a week

#Sweepstakes I researched this extensively. In the end I decided that the nuanced differences mentioned by professional pianists between this and the Roland I was comparing it to were things I probably would never notice. The competitor had down facing speakers which I understand would muffle the sound on a carpeted floor, which is what I have. Also I liked the Yamaha name and reputation. I have it placed against the wall and it sounds very good. The weighted keyboard feels very good, and should minimize issues when transitioning to an acoustic piano for lessons. I'm a beginner who's been practicing on and off with the non-weighted keyboard for about a year and finally decided to get serious. Hopefully this will satisfy my needs for some time to come.

A Solid Beginner Piano

As of writing this review I have at least couple hundred hours of time invested into the P-225. Action is holding up well but keys are a bit too stiff towards the felt, samples are good but don't expect the world, it's more or less for beginners to learn with and not record/perform.

I have been playing piano for two years using a Yamaha keyboard. What a difference using this piano! The sound is so much better and the weighted keys are just like the real thing. It makes me want to practice and play more. The only thing I did not like is the sus pedal that came with the piano and instead use one that is similar to what you would find on a piano.

I had originally purchased an S88 but it didnt work with my version of OSX. This keyboard at half the price, feels much better and worked right out of the box with no issue. No firmware updates. Has Bluetooth and USB midi. So i can set the keyboard up across the room from the pc.

This is an excellent keyboard! I bought it after lengthy searching and testing all kinds at different price ranges. For context, I'm an experienced player looking for something lightweight to gig with. I am so happy I made this choice and Guitar Center employees were very helpful!! #sweepstakes

Is there a transpose option with this keyboard?

    Open Reply - Gear-Support
Yes, the Yamaha P-225 88-Key Digital Piano does have a transpose function! The transpose feature allows you to shift the pitch of the entire keyboard up or down in semitone steps, which is super handy for playing in different keys without changing your fingerings. To activate the transpose function, you typically use a combination of the [Function] button and specific keys on the keyboard. Yamaha often includes a chart in the manual showing which keys correspond to the transpose range.
