Great P For Not A Lot of Money
I was in the market for a four-string P... that's how many of these things start, right? My #1 is an active five-string with soaps but I'm really digging the passive P sound, especially with flats. I wanted a bass that I could get my fix on and not spend a ton getting it. I've played all the Ps in my local store and I liked them, except I couldn't justify the purchase price, as this is not going to be my main bass. I saw this sweet thing online and was intrigued by the price - looks good too. When I heard there was a Sonic P at my GC (in sunburst), I swung by to test it out and I loved it... I almost bought the one I played but I knew I was going to regret not ordering the surf green one. I placed the order and she came in three days later - felt longer because I was genuinely excited to get her so I kept checking the tracking to see where she was. While I could have gigged her straight out of the box, she definitely benefitted from a little action adjustment. The color is lighter in person than in the photos but I like that better. The neck feels great, the hardware all works, and nothing is loose or wonky. I believe the neck is narrower at the nut than a P is supposed to be but I'm not sure if it is quite in Jazz Bass territory. I hardly notice the difference when I'm playing a four-string anyway. She's decently lightweight and the only thing I don't love is that the pickup covers are black instead of white. I think that's the only thing I'd change. Get this, or one of the other colors, if you need a "spare" bass or something inexpensive but still fun to play if you don't already have a P of some kind. A Sonic P could also be great for a beginner or a guitar player who wants to have a bass but won't use it very often, though the scale length may be more of an issue even if the neck is more approachable. The Sonic Broncos (short-scale) would be better since the low F will be easier to get to and the machine for the G isn't five miles away. I have one in Tahitian Coral and I love it too.

Squire guitars seem to be hit and miss
This guitar is beautiful BUT the careless blemishes says a lot about quality. Looks like it was made at the end of a shift. Action was sky high and strings didn't like staying in tune. Despite all of that it did sound nice for the price. Now have paranormal 54 by squire much happier

Great Bass for the Money

This is a great bass for the money - hands down, I think this is a sweet deal. The color is fantastic and looks great. It plays well and has that distinct P-Bass tone that I love. I have to say this is definitely something you can gig with. It is not the best bass out there, but in terms of the value, it gets a 10/10. I recently tried out a Sterling by Music Man Intro Series for about the same price, actually a little more expensive. And out of the box the Squier felt and played so much better. I really think Fender via Squier is heading in the right direction with quality.

The Squire series has come a long way. This bass has a very playable neck and a punchy tone enhanced by the maple neck. Great for slapping! My only complaint is that the frets probably need to be sanded down a bit, as they are a bit sharp. But for this price? I'll take two!

Great first bass guitar for my teenager. He loves it and plays it every day. He chose this one online partly because of the color and doesn't mind that the actual color is less sharp in person.

Squire products have improved dramatically since 2008-09. This bass had a great sound right off the showroom floor. The only suggestion I have is for Guitar Center to have a trained technician onsite at all times to help newbies set up gear before leaving the store. #sweepstakes
