My first bass and I love it.
I bought this bass in Charcoal and a Rumble 25W amp after using it for my first bass lesson at GC. It played and sounded great off the rack. The single humbucker produces a full and smooth sound. I've got small hands and like the medium scale. It does have some neck dive but is comfortable to play standing up for quite awhile. Vol and tone knobs are stylish and feel great. The 70s headstock is great. I'm no technical expert but it looks and feels well constructed and is really beautiful. I changed the stock strings after about a week to flat wound and found the process easy after a YouTube video. I'm a long time guitar player but this has been a great instrument for my first bass. Learning on this instrument is fun and enjoyable.

Too heavy for a short scale.
I loved the look and tones this bass provided with the dual humbucker pick ups but it felt like a bag of brick. It really dug into my shoulder with a regular guitar strap so I tried out one of those zero gravity straps but it still felt cumbersome and had neck dive. For reference I'm a pretty big guy, over 200 lbs. and this thing was still uncomfortable to play standing up. Great sound, too bad it wasn't more balanced.

I went to my local hardware store and bought 9 black-tipped screws to replace the chrome screws used by Squier to attach the faceplate to the body. Cost me $3.60. With the black nylon tapewounds, the instrument looks and sounds way cooler.

I am just starting out with playing the bass. I have found this guitar to be the perfect balance between not being too short or to long (it measures 32" versus 34" standard/30" short scale). It is also lightweight. I can always upgrade to a higher end bass but this is good for now.
Too heavy for a short scale.

I have read other reviews about the neck dive problem. Is this a common problem with this bass and is it easily corrected?
It's an issue with most bass guitars; some more than others. No, there is nothing to correct. The headstock is large with a lot of hardware on it.submitted3 years ago

Squire medium scale bass..is there really much difference in two inches? Will a medium scale intonate and tune as well as a 34 inch.., What about sound? Thanks 👍
Not really. The main difference is it's less of a reach to hit the end of the neck, and the higher register pitches aren't available due to the shorter neck.
