DDJ-REV1 2-channel "scratch-style" DJ controller for Serato DJ Lite | Overview

Pioneer DJ DDJ-REV1 Unboxing | First Look with Serato
Description
The Pioneer DJ DDJ-REV1 controller is a performance powerhouse designed with the open-format and battle DJ in mind. Its spacious layout and oversized jog wheels give you room to experiment with new techniques and emulate the feel of pro DJ turntables. For the first time in a Pioneer DJ controller, the tempo sliders and performance pads sit horizontally to mirror the popular DJM-S mixer. Connecting your favorite music software, microphones, monitors and more is a breeze with dual USB ports, a mic input and balanced XLR outputs.
Extra-Large Jog Wheels for Tactile Control
The DDJ-REV1 features jog wheels noticeably larger than those on previous beginner controllers. Their size makes scratching, nudging and tempo matching more tactile and precise. The jog wheels' tension can also be adjusted to suit your personal style.
Battle-Ready Layout With Horizontal Faders
The DDJ-REV1 has a spacious layout optimized for trying out new battle techniques and open-format sets. Its horizontal tempo sliders and performance pads sit above the deck sections to emulate a DJM-S mixer and PLX turntable setup. The generous amount of space between controls gives you freedom to push the limits of your skills.
Robust Connectivity for Any Set Up
With dual USB ports, a mic input and balanced XLR outputs, the DDJ-REV1 seamlessly integrates into your existing gear. Connect to your laptop, interface with your favorite DJ software, plug in a microphone and send your master output to monitors, amplifiers or a sound system. The controller's onboard sound card ensures high-quality audio with or without a computer.
Responsive, Low-Latency Performance
Optimized for use with professional DJ software like Serato DJ Pro, the DDJ-REV1 offers a responsive, low-latency experience. The multi-colored performance pads and lever FX paddles trigger samples, loops, FX and more with precision. Onboard displays provide essential information at a glance so you can stay focused on the crowd.

A great DJ controller, regardless its target
I am using this at home to learn DJing, and it's perfect for that, it has enough buttons and switches so you can learn how to DJ. The tempo bars are a little small, but not too small, the buttons for hot cues are also a bit small, but that doesn't affect their responsiveness. Overall, this is a very good controller. The jog wheels are super responsive, and there doesn't seem to be any lag, the weight of the wheels is perfect. They're also larger than other 'entry level' dj controllers. The controller is adjustable in the firmware, with a special setup mode to change aspects of how it works. The effects paddles are an excellent feature, and I don't know how they can get away charging so little for so much! You don't get rekordbox or serato pro (you do get serato lite) w/ it but it works with other software that supports midi mapping. 3 band eq, filters, trim for both channels - vinyl mode and a mic input that adds to the audio stream means it's great for streaming DJs (mic level should be a twisty on the top). Overall, if you don't already have a dj controller, this is the one you get.

Layout is super weird and not intuitive, the cue button seems like an after though, would go with a ddj-400 or flex 4 instead

I like the compact and size of this controller, very easy to navigate all switches, straight forward intuitive layout, but the ruggedness is a little bit weak for the price i guess, Although i'm new to DJing and i'm using lite version of Serato i''m craving to upgrade to a more professional Rev 5

Its simple layout, but big features allows you to start learning quickly. The battle layout makes it easy to learn how to scratch too. You're going to find pro level design and it is compatible with Serato DJ software.

The Pioneer DJ DDJ-REV1 is a really cool piece of tech for DJs. It has this circular layout that's different from other controllers, which seems like it would make things easier to find when you're in the middle of a set. The jog wheels feel solid and smooth, good for doing scratches and matching beats, I guess. It looks tough too, like it could handle being knocked around a bit during a gig. Setting it up seems pretty straightforward with USB, so that's a plus if you're not super tech-savvy. Overall, the DDJ-REV1 seems like a good choice if you're serious about DJing and want something reliable and maybe a bit different from the usual setups out there.

I used this at my 9 to 5 day job when I have downtime and create mixes and cues for future gigs. Use it in my hotel, the plane, in the field (Army guy here). You will need to download Serato Lite DJ or Pro, to work. Had I known that before, I might have hesitated buying this. But I brought Pro for this. Even though I have a Rev7 and RANE 72 at home.

I purchased the Pioneer DDJ REV-1 because I think it's a good starting point for beginner DJ in the digital DJ world. The unit is very light and may seem cheap but don't let that fool you. The knobs and buttons on this unit is good. It's got the simple controls and connections to get you started with along some effects and filters. The unit is set up as a battler DJ set instead of a Club DJ set up. It's convenient to bring and DJ at your friends house party or a college party. If you're looking into doing some DJing or have been a DJ in the past but not in the digital world then I suggest The Pioneer DDJ REV-1 is the hardware to get.

Does it work with virtual DJ
Yes, the Pioneer DJ DDJ-REV1 does work with VirtualDJ, but with some important details to keep in mind: VirtualDJ supports the DDJ-REV1, and there is an official mapping available. You'll need VirtualDJ 2021 or later for full compatibility. The DDJ-REV1 does not unlock VirtualDJ for free like it does with Serato DJ Lite. You’ll need a VirtualDJ Pro license (or a monthly subscription) to use it fully with VirtualDJ. Most core features like jog wheels, pads, EQs, FX, and performance modes are supported and mapped well. Some Serato-exclusive features (like certain pad modes) may not translate 1:1, but VirtualDJ usually provides similar alternatives. When plugged in, VirtualDJ should detect it automatically if you're running a current version. If not, you can manually install the mapping from VirtualDJ’s controller page or use the built-in device detection to guide you through setup.submitted3 months ago
