Keeley Electronics - D&M Drive

Description
The Boost
Looking for something in between a clean boost like the high voltage Keeley Katana and a germanium modded professional overdrive? The D&M Drive delivers insane amounts of headroom and a distinct midrange voice can be dialed in to give you the lead voicing you dream of. Dialed in to give you the punch and clarity of a horn yet subtle and smooth in saturation to give you warm overdrive and tons of sustain. Expect it to work well with any amp or rig.
The Drive
Multiple Gain Stages are where it’s at. This delivers. From a its lowest settings where you feel like you’ve discovered the perfect pro sounding overdrive to the roar of a high end amp. This side of the D&M packs a heavily saturated punch. The headroom on this side of the pedal is no slouch, use it to find that delicate balance between drive and amp saturation for the core of your tone. Turn up the Drive to give you a dynamic and searing tube-like gain that excels in sustain. Designed for quick attack with plenty of high and low end. Rich harmonic gain and sustain with dynamics is what this side offers.
The Switching
Daniel Steinhardt from TheGigRig insisted that this was a versatile dual gain box that wasn’t limited in any way with its two simple stomp switches. You select the order! A simple toggle allows you to configure the pedal so that when both the Drive and Boost are on you decide which is first. If you want to have a smooth and round tone go into a richly driven amp-like gain stage….or if you want a highly driven tone with edge and harmonics to be then boosted with clarity and refinement, it’s your choice. Not only that, but it also has TRS inputs so that this pedal would easily integrate into an professional switching system like the G2. Now pedalboard designers can configure the D&M Drive to act as two independent pedals, switching between either side of the pedal as it were its own stand alone effect.

I've been playing for 19 years, and I was looking for a replacement dual overdrive. The one that I've been using was lacking some clarity that I wanted. I've always heard great thing about Keeley and I love That Pedal Show, so I thought I'd give the D&M Drive a try. I've been back and forth for the past few weeks with my feelings toward this pedal. The truth about it is that it is extremely focused in frequencies. As they say on the show, what sounds great at home may not get you heard in a gig. I play in a four piece band in a church of about 300 using a reissue 65 Twin and a Barden loaded Tele. I'm always told that I need to be turned up. I have changed nothing but this pedal, and I've had great responses from people since I swapped. My only slight issue is that I wish the boost side had a little more grit, but then it wouldn't really be a boost. I will likely be purchasing the Keeley Aria very soon to solve that problem though.
It is a must buy for all types of players!

Easily the most versatile over drive I've ever had the pleasure of playing. It can go from screaming lead tones nearing distortion all the way down to subtle sparkiling clean blues. Just in this one pedal alone you get multiple tones and it plays well with other over drives! I couldn't recommend it highly enough!

The Keeley D&M Drive pedal, I would think, does exactly what it was designed to do. The boost side has it's own unique sound, with a pleasing lower mid emphasis that is usable on it's own and can get into mild overdrive territory as well as being a very nice colored boost. When stacked before the drive side, gives the drive a lot more "fatness". The drive side is excellent if you like bright, British sorts of overdriven amp sounds. It's a little on the pricey side for someone used to buying simple overdrives, but quite competitive for this type of unit. I'm very happy with mine and recommend it for those wanting this kind of sound.

This pedal is the perfect combination of boost and overdrive/distortion. With two complete control sets in essentially a 1 1/2 size pedal, it fits easily on a pedal board. The independent gain and level (volume), plus tone controls couple with the four effect combinations to give a very versatile tool. I purchased this to put in front of a single-channel amp (Dr. Z Therapy) set for clean. This gives me 5 tonal combinations at my disposal without any tweaking, just depress the two on/off controls or flip the toggle switch. I couldn't be happier.

I really recommended this pedal to anyone who is trying to get a overdrive pedal and a boost, the way you can combine both pedals is awesome. No negative critics about this effect pedal.

Huge fan of Dan and Mick, so I bought this pedal to try it out so I could support them. It turns out that its completely awesome, and is extremely versatile. I ended up using the drive side as my boost with a light gain and the boost side and drive together as my driving lead tone, and its been great. I use this at my church playing worship tunes, and its definitely great for that.
