BOSS RV-6 Reverb

BOSS

collapse expand iconDescription

The RV-6 digital delay reverb effects pedal from BOSS provides guitarists an easy way to add depth, dimension and drama to their tone. Packed with eight meticulously crafted reverb algorithms, from small rooms to cavernous halls to vintage spring emulations and more, the RV-6 envelops your tone in lush, ambient spaces. While its effects are digital, your core tone always remains pure analog thanks to an all-analog dry signal path.

Eight High-Quality Reverb Effects

The RV-6 offers eight reverb types that range from subtle room and hall settings to more dramatic spring and modulated reverbs. Add natural-sounding depth with the room and hall reverbs or get lost in the swirling modulate reverb. The dynamic reverb mode automatically adjusts the reverb level based on your playing intensity, providing a thick wash of reverb that never turns muddy. Modern players will appreciate the shimmer reverb's pitch-shifted sheen and the reverb+delay's dual effect. Each reverb type has been meticulously crafted to inspire.

Retain Clarity With Dynamic Mode

The RV-6's dynamic reverb mode is perfect for players who want an immersive reverb effect without losing the clarity and articulation of their playing. Dynamic reverb automatically adjusts the reverb level based on your pick attack and playing volume, adding more reverb during louder passages and pulling back during quieter sections. The result is a lush, ambient tone that provides the perfect backing for your guitar without overpowering it.

Pure Analog Dry Tone

While the RV-6 provides cutting-edge digital reverb effects, it retains your core tone in pure analog. The dry signal path uses high-quality analog components to ensure your straight guitar tone remains pristine as the reverb effect is blended in. You'll get amazing ambient tones without coloring your natural tone.

Flexible and Intuitive

The BOSS RV-6 is designed to integrate easily into any setup. It features mono in/stereo out jacks as well as a mono in/mono out jack for simpler rigs. It also provides a 100% wet out jack for parallel effect loops. Intuitive knobs for time, tone and level/depth give you simple, hands-on control over your reverb sounds. Under the hood, complex parameters are automatically adjusted to create the perfect voicing for each reverb type.

Better than Neunaber Immerse IMO

I compared this to the Neunaber Immerse over a week's time and liked the RV6 better. Perhaps in large venues or at greater volumes the Immerse would prevail but for home recording and small room playing I prefer the RV6. The Immerse has very nice separation between wet and dry signals for a superb and distinct awareness of both but it also uses ( IMO) the same sound logarithm for all settings so that Hall, Spring, Mod, etc all sound like variations of the shimmer sound. The Boss' Hall and Shimmer and Spring sound different. Also, the Boss Shimmer responds better and more quickly to changes in the notes I play, that is to say that the Shimmer note characteristics change too, where as I felt the Shimmer threw out the same "ahhhhh" (angel's singing) tone regardless of what I played. Another important issue for me was that I wanted to have my reverb, delay and looper all in the effects loop of my Fender Bassbreaker. The signal loss of the Immerse when used in the loop was large enough that I had to max out the level knob which added noise and then made the other effects way to loud when I switched over to them. Fine tuning is a little harder with the Boss but there is plenty of signal gain which I like. I like my effects to be able to get into the unuseable range as the knob approaches max. Professionals or studio hobbyist will probably prefer the Immerse, but then again, those same folks probably have 3 - 4 reverb pedals to choose from already :)

Amp Reverb Sounds Better

I didn't hate this pedal, but I wasn't really impressed by it either. I've read reviews and watched videos on it for quite some time, but when I finally decided to buy it, I was pretty bummed by its sound. Plate, Hall, and Room sounded alright, but I still liked the sound of my Boss Katana's reverb options a bit more. Modulation and Dynamic were kind of fun to experiment with, but I was bored with it after fifteen minutes of playing. Spring wasn't that great sounding, and Shimmer was kind of fun, but didn't really suit my playing style. All in all, it works and does it what it advertizes, but at the end of the day, most amps already have an onboard reverb setting, and they're typically pretty decent, so this pedal isn't necessary, in my opinion.

Compact and super simple. Really good sounding reverbs for the prices. The tone knob is useful especially for taming the shrillness of the shimmer setting. I wish the +delay setting has control over the reverb side. Overall a solid, affordable, simple reverb with lots of sounds in it.

  • I'd buy this again

You can't go wrong with this one. The amount of variety of sounds you can achieve with this one pedal alone is remarkable. BOSS has made a classic.

It's a Boss pedal so you know it's a bullet proof design. As for the sound, it sounds organic, not sterile like so many other reverb pedals. It's a keeper for me.

Exceptional reverb algorithms and simple controls that you can easily adjust on the spot. This thing is built like a tank and will last a lifetime.

Not really. Digital delay and Reverb are not the same thing. What do you need?
