Tattoo Mahogany Concert Ukulele

Luna

collapse expand iconDescription

This Luna Guitars Tattoo Concert uke takes its design from traditional Hawaiian body ornamentation. The designs were monochromatic, tattooed in black against brown skin. The patterns and layout were strongly geometric and there were many shapes and symbols representing the natural island world: stones, waves, fish, sharks, turtles, rain, sun and birds. This design is based on a Hawaiian turtle (honu), a symbol of longevity and endurance rendered in a Polynesian tattoo style. The fret markers are stylized sharks teeth.

Excellent Buy!!!

I purchased this today for my son, as his first ukulele. I own 5 ukeleles of different sizes, and I have become very particular about what I purchase. When I tried this Luna in the store I fell in love with it. I brought it home and compared it with my mahogany Tenor Fender (which was nearly twice the price) and I was shocked that it sounded just as good, and my son (a singer who knows his tone, pitch, etc.,) said he liked the sound of the Luna more than the Fender. It is surprisingly rich in tone, and the distinct design is beautiful. The action (space between the fretboard and strings) is perfect, and although no expert, it appears to be of solid construction. In my opinion this is a steal at $99.99, and I plan on going back to the store and buying another one.

Professional's review

I have a few students who have purchased this ukelele as well as others from Luna. The consistent problem is poor tone and neck quality. Within months the neck becomes bowed and the frets, even out of the box, are projecting off the neck, making movement up and down very uncomfortable. The factory strings are junk as well. Highly recommend not purchasing and looking into the Cordoba, which is what I use. At the same price, the Cordoba outperforms.

I got this ukulele for my four-year-old and she loves it. It sounds great, it looks beautiful, and its nylon strings make it very gentle for her to play. The free gig bag was an added bonus.

This was my first ukulele and it's a good start! It's a great looking uke and well crafted! It's perfect for beginners and I'm not disappointed with my purchase! However, I'm an experienced musician that records and I will be looking to get something with better sound quality!

I enjoyed it and was surprised by good quality/price ratio. I got it in 2017 and played it and cared for 5 years at home. Twenty days ago the bridge just snapped while it was inside it's carrying bag, at home. Problem seems that they glued the bridge over a veneer top, that couldn't hold. Am repairing it as a weekend project.

The tuners started grinding after a single string change. Easy and cheap to replace though, so it's still hard to complain for the price. Other than that it sounds pretty good and it looks nice. I'm primarily a guitarist but I wanted a simple and portable alternative on occasion and this fits the bill nicely.

Do you have this in your store? I like to look before I buy, and maybe ask a few questions, I want it for a gift. I'll be coming out from Medina, about an hour away.
