Great guitar.....except for the Bigsby.

I've always considered Gretsch a quality brand, so I was happy to get one at the price I paid, and hoping that it would still be up to standard I was accustomed to. The quality and craftsmanship were what I expected, and it plays and sounds great. The only thing I don't like (and why I gave it 4 stars) is that the angle of the Bigsby tremolo arm is way too high to actually use. I have 2 other similar Gretsch's: an Electromagnetic 5420T and a vintage 6120DC. Both of these guitars have Bigsby tremolos, and on both the arm is readily accessible and very responsive. On this new one, however, the angle is way off and a little stiff: basically unusable as is. I am trying to find a shorter spring, which I hope will resolve the problem. But I am disappointed that someone at Gretsch did not realize that the way this Bigsby ships is not what I would expect from Gretsch.

Just purchased... Love it. Perfect weight, nice balance. Smooth fret board. Easy to stretch strings. I played a lot of guitars today. This is what I came in for. Long time player, self enjoyment.

  • A lot of guitar for the price!

This is my first Gretsch, and I love it. After unboxing the action and intonation was nearly perfect, just needed a little tweaking (as do most guitars). I bought the Imperial Stain, the grain looks great in person. I changed the cream hardware to black just as a personal preference.

  • Great looking and sounding. Tremelo set up lacking.

The guitar looks great and is set up nicely. My only complaint is that the Tremelo bar didn't appear to be installed correctly and fell off the first day. The only way I could figure out how to get it back on was to cut off the strings to get to the spring and the nut/washer assembly. It looked to me like the nut was put on backwards and unscrewed itself every time I'd swing the Tremelo bar into a position to use it. Restringing is a bit of a bear and I'll have to figure out an easier way to do it than my first try.

  • Good for the price

I have had my Gretsch for almost a year, it sounds incredible, and plays easy, really great for the price. Just a few things about it, it is cheaply put together, the input jack needs adjustment, and the tremolo will throw it out of tune.

I bought this guitar as a Christmas present for myself. The guitar arrived set up, the action was low and there was no fret buzz. Additionally, a card tied to the head was signed by the person responsible for setting up the guitar. No sharp frets and great finish. This guitar practically plays itself and has the tone I like so much for playing oldies. I am an intermediate player. I have been playing 40 years and own 11 guitars .

    It's a semi-hollow. That's what a "center block" is.
