Wanna give it a 5 Star but.....
First of all, I really, really want to give this 5 Stars but......I'll get to that. I want to make a suggestion to anyone ordering a Bass, Guitar...Electric or Acoustic Online or over the phone. This can be the reason some players complain about Fret Buzz and Sharp Edges. Like everyone receiving our new "Musical Toys," we wanna tear them right open and start blowing the Roof off. Do yourself a BIG FAVOR. Let your new Axe ACCLIMATE in it's new home, at least overnight before pulling her out. You have to remember, or maybe this is a "Teachable Moment," for those who may not realize, you're dealing with a BIG PIECE OF WOOD, which regardless what preparation Manufacturers do before building and Shipping, it's gone through a TON of TEMPERATURE CHANGES before it gets to you. Yep...the Wood on the Axe, just like Wooden Floors, are STILL ALIVE!!!! It needs time to expand and contract before it reaches the Humidity and Temperatures of it's new home. Taking it from your house to Practice, Gig or down the street to your friends house is no big deal. However traveling across the country, in the back of a Truck and going in and out of the Shippers buildings AIN'T NO FUN for an Axe!! Just think, have you ever taken 1 of your Guitars outside to play and by the time....all 30 seconds it took for you to sit down, the Tuning is all out of wack and you're constantly Tuning for a while? The same applies here. Ok, now that I've completely bored yo6u to death and put you to sleep, now you can read my opinion on this beauty!!! You have to remember that Although I'm primarily a Guitarist, I am a Multi-Instrumentalist who does a lot of Composing and was doing SOME Fill-In Gigs.....for some reason, I'm really getting a few more calls for me to fill in on Bass lately, so another reason I've needed a 5 lately. I have my own Studio and write 99% of the parts, so I play Drums...but really don't consider myself a REAL DRUMMER, play Keys, Bass, among other stuff. Only reasons I don't give it 5 Stars are the PUP'S could be a good bit hotter. I definitely expected it to be more of a BEAST than my Jazz with Seymore Jazz Pickups, and the Machine Heads/Tuners, aren't the best in the world. Don't get me wrong, it stays in tune but I think the Ratio could be better because it takes some effort sometimes just to make some slight Tuning adjustments. I currently own a 4 String Fender Jazz with a Hipshot installed and until now, never really needed a 5 String. Again, for some reason, I've been doing a lot of "Fill-In Gigs and recently, I've had times that I just could've used a 5. With that said, here comes the real reason for reading this, it came out of the box virtually PERFECT....all it needed was Tuned!! I ordered this, never playing this model but very familiar with Schecters quality within the price ranges they offer. The Intonation was DEAD ON with the exception of the Low B, which is a given with most 5 String Basses, but only took an extremely small adjustment to get it as close as it will ever get, regardless of the Manufacturer, above the 12th Fret. The Frets were done EXTREMELY WELL, ZERO sharp edges along the Neck, which....and have no clue how this happened.... also was PERFECTLY ADJUSTED to my taste. Other than needing better Tuners and slightly hotter Pickups, this Bass is absolutely beautiful and plays incredibly smooth. The Satin Finish and Thin Taper "C" shaped Neck makes this a breeze to play...at least for me to play. With, I'm sure, too much written, there's a good chance that I'm going to return this beauty for an ACTIVE Bass. I really don't want to spend more money, which is well worth the price GC sells her for, me personally, just need something with a touch more GROWL with Active Output and EQ. It's going to be a Schecter.....the Radius, Long Scale, as well as the PERFECT Width at the Nut, has definitely made me a Schecter Bass Guy!! This Bass is PERFECT, depending on YOUR NEEDS, for almost any player. If you're a "Beginner" Bass Player and want to start your experience on a 5 String, I highly recommend you go into the store, put it in your hands to make sure your hands and Fingers can go completely around the Neck from, at least, the 1st through the 5th Frets. Now, that's just my opinion on beginning, if you're a Teacher and feel otherwise, please correct ANYTHING I have recommended.

Not too pleased....returning to the store today
I ordered this online from GC, will be returning today. Poorly built, maybe worst fret edges I've had on any bass (rough and sharp), bad fret buzz at 5th fret, large gap on one side where neck meets the body, blend pot doesn't work correctly, tone control is either full tone or full mud. Very disappointed, poorly built. I've owned a number of Schecter basses over the years, currently have a P-5 and CV-5, both of which are very, very good and extremely well built/refined, and I really like the Schecter brand, so I was excited to get this. This looks, feels, and is built cheaply and should be offered at half the price, even though it's not really expensive to start with. The electronics and pickup control options are similar to the CV-5, which is exponentially better for not much more money, This Omen, like the CV-5 could be very versatile giving you the option to go series, split, or parallel with the pickups. I could probably deal with a lot of what's going on with this thing if the fret edges were decent, but honestly with the way it's put together I consider it virtually unplayable. Chewed up my hands in 20 minutes. I was really excited to get this because of the control options, which included a blend pot (CV-5 only has a 3-way switch), and the 24 fret/35" scale, but honestly....I've never returned a bass or guitar before....until now...... I'd have to spend a bunch of money to straighten this thing out, and at that point I might as well just pay a little more and get something better. Bottom line; beginner bass that sells for double what it should, very disappointed considering I've always gotten excellent basses from Schecter.

I tried several Schecter basses (both 4 and 5 string) in GC after playing different instruments from other manufacturers and this was by far the best, including others twice as expensive! This bass is incredible and hard to believe the electronics are passive with many tonal options via the toggle switches for each pickup running in parallel/split/single mode.
Fantastic bass - light and thin neck that works for me.

Love the neck on this which was the selling point for me. The tone through an amp is awesome but for recording, I prefer it through a compressor to give it more of an active sound. Gonna try different strings to brighten it up more. For me, I am not a fan of the flat fender sound and this bass can get that since it is not active, but it offers so much more - for me!
Amazing

Enjoyed playing this bass right out of the box. The neck is nice and smooth. The finish is really even, there's no fret buzzes. I like the way it looks and the way it's built. This is my first five string, even though I've been playing bass for 50 years.

This was my first five string bass, and it has lived up to everything I thought it would. I tested it out in store, and it had the same mojo that I was looking for. It's perfect for all types of gigs and practice styles. I have used it to record rock and jazz, and performed both of those with this axe. It is an amazing first five string at an amazing price.

What's the weight if this bass?
All basses vary depending on the density of the wood. Even the same model can vary up to 1.5 lbs Manufacturers usually only spec size and type of wood. Bass Guitars are generally between 8.00 and 10.00 lbs. The only way to know the weight of an individual instrument is to weigh it. I'm sorry I don't have one to weigh. This will be approximately 8.5 – 9.5 lbs.submitted2 years ago
