Description
The Gibson Les Paul Standard '50s solid body electric guitar is a tribute to one of the most influential eras in music history. With its figured maple top on a solid mahogany back, this guitar delivers the unmistakable resonance and sustain that has defined the Les Paul legacy. The nitrocellulose lacquer finish enhances the natural vibrancy of its tonewoods while providing a vintage aesthetic. A rounded '50s neck profile adds to its authentic feel, offering a comfortable grip for extended playing sessions. Combined with Burstbucker pickups and meticulous handwired electronics, this model captures the warm, punchy tones that shaped rock and roll. Every detail—from the trapezoid inlays to the ABR-1 bridge—reflects Gibson's dedication to craftsmanship and tone.
Gibson Burstbucker Humbucker Pickups for PAF-Style Warmth
The Les Paul Standard '50s is equipped with Burstbucker 1 and Burstbucker 2 pickups, calibrated for a rich, vintage-inspired sound. These Alnico II magnet pickups are designed to recreate the iconic tones of Gibson's original PAFs, delivering warm, full-bodied lows and clear, singing highs. The Burstbuckers' slightly unbalanced windings add harmonic complexity, making each note resonate with depth and character. Paired with handwired controls and Orange Drop capacitors, the pickups allow players to shape their tone with precision. From smooth, bluesy leads to aggressive rock rhythms, these pickups bring the legendary Les Paul voice to life.
Gibson's Premium Build for Unmatched Resonance
This guitar's mahogany body and figured maple top create a tonal foundation that's both warm and articulate. Mahogany ensures a rich, resonant low end, while the maple top adds brightness and clarity, allowing the instrument to cut through dense arrangements. The glossy nitrocellulose lacquer finish not only highlights the natural beauty of the tonewoods but also allows the guitar to breathe, enhancing its resonance over time. With its classic combination of tonewoods and meticulous craftsmanship, this model delivers the sustain and tonal depth that players expect from a Les Paul.
Les Paul's Vintage-Inspired Neck for Comfortable Playability
The rounded '50s neck profile on this guitar provides a comfortable, medium grip that feels substantial without being bulky. Its mahogany construction ensures stability, while the bound Indian rosewood fingerboard offers a smooth surface for effortless fretting. With 22 medium-jumbo frets, bending strings is a breeze, making it ideal for expressive soloing. The 1.695" Graph Tech nut provides ample room for complex chords and precision leads, while the single-action truss rod allows for easy neck adjustments. These features combine to create a neck that feels natural and responsive, perfect for extended practice or performance sessions.
Hardware Built for Long-Term Performance
The Les Paul Standard '50s is equipped with an ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic bridge and aluminum stopbar tailpiece, providing exceptional tuning stability and sustain. Vintage Deluxe tuners with Keystone buttons ensure precise tuning adjustments while maintaining the guitar's classic aesthetic. Every hardware component is engineered for durability, allowing the instrument to withstand the rigors of gigging and studio use. From its solid construction to its reliable tuning mechanisms, this model delivers consistent performance that players can rely on for years to come.

Great guitar, but try before you buy!
2019 Gibson Les Paul Standard 50s heritage cherry sunburst – I'd always wanted a standard, but could never afford one. When I'd seen the reviews on how this is not weight-relieved and no frills, back to the 50's original recipe, I'd figured I'd give it a go. And you don't know what you're getting until you get one. I'd taken a chance on a demo copy from Sweetwater and had to return it due to the nut being cracked on the sides of it and into the binding. So they had to send me a brand new one. The first one had a killer neck though. Loved that thing! It was more of what I would believe to be a '59 neck. Not quite beefy as a '58, but not slim-tapered either. I think it's got a good feel to the neck. I didn't get to plug in the first one because I knew I was returning it. So when I'd gotten the second one, I had to inspect it thoroughly. It seems to be fine. I'm not a fan of the plastic tuners, but this is supposed to mimic the original 59's. The pickups sound fine. This is definitely a beautiful guitar. This guitar needs to be intonated. Upon further inspection and also watching and reading reviews, I'd wanted to know more. So the first thing I'd checked as I'd seen in a video was the pickguard. The actual bracket is smaller than that of a Korean-made Agile Les Paul copy. So the nut of the bolt which is over the body of the guitar hits the body and leaves an imprint. So Ding #1. That's a quality control issue. At this point, you've pretty much bought the guitar. So nothing's quite to the actual 1950's specs. NOTHING! It's never been that way and never will be. I'd given Gibson another chance and I've always been a huge Gibson guitar fan. Just to learn things that I probably wouldn't know about before, makes me wonder and question what goes on in that factory, quality control, meeting, board rooms of the Gibson company. There are other things you can find out online in videos where the guitars were taken apart and do not quite fit the exact same specs from the 1950's

Yes, but after a pro QC
I bought a $2,999.00 Les Paul 3 years ago, I ordered online from GC and I picked it up in Orlando. It is not the first guitar I bought on GC, so I pretty much know what to expect, so I ordered online 2 Les Pauls, the same one, different colors (Tobacco and Cherry). When I showed up to pick the guitar and opened the case, I immediately realised the pickup selector was completely loose. The guy from the store called the tech they have in store, but he could do nothing, as the hole in the wood was not big enough, of course I didn't buy that guitar, so I keep the second one that have no issues. What I do not understand is: 1.- how this guitar passed QC and left the factory? 2.- Why GC doesn't inspect the guitar when they arrive? For me is a big issue, because I do not live in the States, so I have not chance to send the guitar back and get a new one, so that's why I order 2. Definitely, the guitar is amazing, already have it 3 years, but it is like buying a blind bag guitar. I just ordered another guitar on Sweetwater, as they say "they inspect every guitar and take pictures of real ones", so let's see what I get.

Great guitar

I purchased a 50s cherry top LP roughly a year ago from Sweet Water. Set up needed adjustments but the guitar though expensive is extraordinarily. I played a buddies Epiphone Les Paul recently and there was no comparison. Well worth the cash.
Absolutely beautiful, stunning, and amazing to play

This Gibson Les Paul 50's gold top is absolutely a killer guitar. It plays and sounds like a dream. I happen to get it brand new. It wasn't even a floor model not was brand new still sealed in the box. I was the only one to ever touch it besides Gibson themselves. That's rare at GC. It's almost always the one you get is the one hanging up. Overall I'm stoked. This guitar won't let me out it down and keeps calling me to play it. It's already inspired a song in just a couple days of having it. No QC issues to speak of really. A small discoloration on the binding but it's nothing major and I really don't care about that. It's hand made so some imperfections are to be expected. Nothing major just that minor thing. Over the next few decades I'll have my own aging anyway. I can't speak highly of this guitar. Set up from Gibson was spot on, and it was in tune. GC cut the tape in front of me so I know for sure the last people to touch it was Gibson themselves. Definitely recommend.

I've gotten tons of compliments on this guitar. The looks and the tone is a head turner. Only bummer, I was missing the QC picture of the guitar when it was leaving the shop. Kind of bummed I didn't get that.
You just can't beat the real thing!

This is my 3rd Les Paul since 1984. I decided I wanted a 50's Standard Gold Top and the neck on this one fit like a glove. And the pickups in this beast are amazing. Gibson QC still has issues but it almost makes each guitar unique lol. You can't beat the real thing.
Waited 48 years for this one, should have bought it sooner!

This thing sounds great, the neck shape is head and shoulders above my Fender Strat so easy to grab cords and not buzz the Low E string. First sitting with it was like I had been playing it for years. Worth the money especially on sale during Guitarithon.

Was this a 50th anniversary custon les paul made in nashville. I was told only 125 made?
No. It is made in Nashville, but this is the standard 50's, it's a reissue to the specs of the 50's les paul.submitted6 years ago

How well does this one stay in tune
as far as staying in tune this is a great option, but it would depend on the strings you use as well. One brand may be better suited to stay in tune than another.submitted6 years ago

So, are these replacing the R9 model?
I don't believe so. This has become a standard for Gibson to update the Reissues every couple of years and sell the updated model.
