Epiphone 1963 Les Paul SG Custom

Slim Mahogany Body and Long Tenon Neck

The Epiphone Inspired by Gibson Custom ‘63 Les Paul SG Custom has the same slim, beveled mahogany body and glued-in mahogany neck that made the 1963 Gibson SG so comfortable to play and resonant. Its long neck tenon provides increased sustain and stability. The SlimTaper neck has a fast feel that makes it easy to play fast riffs and solos up and down the fingerboard. The 22-fret bound ebony fingerboard has a 12" radius and vintage-style block inlays for smooth bends and an authentic look. Epiphone 1963 Les Paul SG Custom Headstock

Historically Accurate Details for Vintage Style

From its split-diamond headstock inlay to its vintage tuners, this Epiphone is all about historic details. It features a bound Gibson-style "open book" headstock with a pearloid split diamond inlay, just like the 1963 original. The headstock, fingerboard and body are all bound in single-ply binding for an authentically vintage look. The guitar comes in a Vintage Original Sheen (VOS) Classic White finish for a played-in appearance. Other details like mother-of-pearl block fingerboard inlays, nylon nut and 18:1 ratio Grover Rotomatic tuners with gold plating give this Custom Shop Epiphone the premium vintage vibe of a true golden-era SG.

Epiphone 1963 Les Paul SG Custom Pickups

Custombuckers Deliver Classic Rock and Blues Tone

The Epiphone Inspired by Gibson Custom 1963 Les Paul SG Custom electric guitar with Maestro Vibrola comes loaded with a pair of Gibson Custombucker humbucking pickups that provide the warm, rich tone the SG is known for. The neck pickup has increased midrange for smooth leads, while the bridge pickup provides tighter lows and bite for aggressive rhythms, which adds punch for the middle switch position where the middle and bridge pickups are used in combination. Each pickup uses alnico magnets and enamel coated wire, with historically accurate uneven coil windings. They are also wax potted to reduce microphonic feedback. The pickups are hand wired with high-quality components like CTS potentiometers, Mallory capacitors and a Switchcraft selector toggle switch and output jack. Just like the original 1963 SG guitar, this Epiphone Inspired by Gibson Custom 1963 Les Paul SG Custom gives you legendary humbucker tone.

Epiphone 1963 Les Paul SG Custom Gold Hardware

Premium Gold Hardware for Classic Style

The gold hardware on this ‘63 LP Custom Reissue looks fantastic and adds vintage styling. The gold plating extends across the ABR-1 bridge, Maestro Vibrola tailpiece, pickup covers, pickup selector tip, control knobs and Grover tuners. The gold perfectly complements the guitar's VOS Classic White finish. It gives the Epiphone Inspired by Gibson Custom 1963 Les Paul SG Custom reissue a stylish, premium look while honoring the 1963 Gibson SG's original gold appointments. Whether playing at home, in the studio or on stage, this classically styled electric guitar will turn heads.

This guitar feels and plays great, I really like it. However, there are a couple of issues. The binding on the neck and head stock don't meet the painted surface evenly the binding is not thick enough, you can feel this. Also, where the binding meets the pained surface there is a dark line that is not supposed to be the and it looks funny. the Vintage Original Sheen (VOS) finish is another issue. The paint has orange peel and that is just a poor finish VOS does not mean orange peel, they will try and convince you that it does but that is not correct, I have a few original guitars from the early days and not one of them has orange peel (pebbled) finish. The rest of the guitar is great, The Gibson Custom Buckers are fantastic as is the rest of the hardware. The case looks good but nowhere near Gibson quality and it has a lot of plastic and has a funny smell like fertilizer. Overall though you will love this guitar!!!

  • Nice guitar with Custom Shop appointments.

I wasn't sure what to expect, but this thing is fun to play and sounds great with those Gibson Custom Buckers. The out of phase thing between the bridge and middle pickups is a nice option to have. This thing is a looker with those Mother of Pearl inlays. Needs a gloss finish.

This piece is awesome. If you've always wanted this original model from Gibson, but don't have the budget for it, this thing is extremely close. When it comes to the "Inspired by Gibson" line, this one is my favorite. It comes with Gibson custom buckers, and the middle pickup has been wired to give that "out of phase" tone that a lot of folks look for in this model. Another thing is the Vibrola. The Vibrola on this has been altered to help with intonation and stay in tune, and is completely usable! Great stuff coming from Epiphone. Keep up the good work!
