P-125 Digital Piano Overview

Yamaha

collapse expand iconDescription

The P-125 digital piano carries on the tradition of the best-selling P-Series, with even more user-friendly features and improved sound quality. Available in black or white finishes, the P-125 delivers Yamaha piano touch and tone in a compact design and is ideal for home, home-studio or stage use. The P-125 is an 88-key graded hammer action piano with a complement of common sounds including multiple grand piano voices, electric pianos from an authentic Rhodes to an FM-style piano, clavinet, strings, vibes and more. You can split and layer sounds, and enjoy the output from its high-quality built-in speakers or patch the output into a larger amplification system.

Realistic Piano Tones
Yamaha's Pure CF Sound Engine results from years of piano-making history combined with state-of-the-art sampling technology and expertise. Yamaha is one of the industry's leaders in digital piano technology, and you can hear why in the sound of their digital pianos that utilize the Pure CF piano sample. The P-125 includes the sound of Yamaha's renowned CFIIIS 9' concert grand piano and is faithfully reproduced, allowing for incredible dynamics and expressiveness making Pure CF-equipped digital pianos worthy of the Yamaha name.

Acoustic Properties
String Resonance recreates the sympathetic sounds of other strings resonating, just like the behavior of acoustic pianos. Damper Resonance DSP recreates the sound of the inside of a grand piano when the dampers are off the strings. Key-off samples deliver the delicate change in sound the instant the damper falls back to the string.

Authentic To The Touch
Yamaha's GHS (Graded Hammer Standard) weighted action has heavier touch in the low end and lighter touch in the high end, just like the hammers inside an acoustic piano. Great for the aspiring pianist, practicing on the GHS action builds the proper finger technique for when the time comes to perform on an acoustic piano. Plus, the matte finish makes the black keys are less slippery when playing for extended periods of time.

Enhanced Sound System
The tweeter position has been improved in the P-125 to be in line with the ears of the performer. Melody lines and treble passages are brighter and more expressive as a result. This new configuration ensures that the instrument sounds sparkle and come alive across the entire tonal range.

Immersive Sound
Stereophonic Optimizer adjusts the spatial distribution of sound in the listener's headphones, creating the sensation that sound is coming directly from the piano, rather than from the headphones.

Excellent for a 25 pound digital piano- improved over prior

First of all, this is not meant to compete with something like a Kawai ES8 or even Yamaha P255 or forthcoming P515. Its function should be a 25 pound portable piano that is easy to lift and move and travel with. There are going to be some compromises but in my opinion this is a great value. It uses Yamaha's GHS action- this one is fine- it doesn't feel bad to play . However, it won't be as realistic as some of the more expensive items. They did a nice job with the speaker system- its clear- the left hand notes are thick sounding which is good for rock. They added a 4th layer to the sound- I don't think it varies as dynamically as the ES-110 but overall it is louder and a thicker sound which is what I need. Quality seems good- there is a way on the bottom of the piano to grip it which is decent. I would probably prefer if they could fit GH action in this weight range but in my opinion it wasn't overall a huge or if any dropoff in sound from the P-255 (note I also will use an external speaker). My conclusion is - it holds its own and is excellent if you are looking in the $600-$700 25 pound class (along with FP-30, Casio PX-160, Kawai ES-100 etc). If you are looking for a piano that is going to just stay in your home I would then urge to consider the P-255. This P-125 will be a piano I can travel with and sound good playing- that was the main 2 important points.

Good for the money

There is SO much to like about this piano. Yamaha makes great instruments but there is a trade off for price point. The sound is very good but the speakers do have trouble at times. I don't know if they arent made for the polyphony that Yamaha says this has or they get too hot, but weird things happen. There is a strange inaccurate ring when big runs are made, far short of the number of notes it says it can handle. It rings almost like a buzz and doesnt sound right. On occasion single notes arent accurate either, but they change from time to time.....almost like a string piano. One time a D was almost a half step off. Also less than a year and 3 keys are clicking. I play heavy classical on occasion but not often and several WEEKS in the year, I didnt play it.

I'm planning to returning the item this week. The service I received from the local store is below my expectations. So I'm buying another piano keyboard and pay more because the services and explanation I received was unacceptable.

The Yamaha P125 is great. Slim profile but not slim on quality. The weighted keys feel and respond like a baby grand. Still discovering all the features, so impressed.

This piano feels and sounds like an authentic acoustic piano. Has just the right voices programmed into it and is portable enough to take on gigs. Love it.

This is quite a digital piano. The sounds are very good. The features are not too hard to use once you read the manual and practice a bit. The feel of the keyboard is decent though a little bouncy. Classical pianists might quibble but they'll probably spend much more on their piano. Note that they are a bit taller than you might think when you see it in the spinet-like stand at the store. Speakers are OK - definitely try it with headphones which should sound better. Overall, very happy with it so far! Haven't try the Smart Pianist app or a MIDI connection yet.

I'm interested in buying, but I'd need to see photos of the actual piano first and any "blemishes" it has. Can you please share those with me?

Unfortunately additional pictures are unavailable. Blemishes are slight and do not affect the tone or play ability of the instrument.

They are not weighted in the sense of an acoustic piano. Yamaha defines their keyboard fell as "Graded hammer standard"

Hi there , I bought this piano year ago from your store in Delray Beach. And now I'm moving to another country, can I order/ask for a box 📦 for shipping from you? Or can you provide the information where I can get the right box with foam plastic to secure the piano while it'll be shipped to that country. Thank you

It depends on the location what they have on hand. What I would recommend doing is give them a call before you head over and they can give you an answer.

Road Runner Large 76 and 88-Key Keyboard Cover would be the best bet. And this doesn't include the stand.
