Why should I use a Drum Shield?

Why should I use a Drum Shield?

Drum shields are not for every application. It can be found most affective when doing a live recording with a full band. When you have other instruments and monitors blaring through the stage, it can be a task to get around bleed through. A Drum shield can provide a clean drum sound by keeping guitar, vocals, or any other instrument on stage out of the mix. Drum shields can also help trap the “full” acoustic sound. It is very easy to capture the highs of a kit, but in a live setting, the mids or lows can be a challenge. The lower frequencies are easily lost in the ambiance on stage. A drum shield will trap the frequencies to give you more control over the kit. Even a mediocre mic can sound phenomenal behind a drum shield. The drum shield doesn't just help behind the kit. It can also dramatically cut your cymbal noise on stage. It's very easy for a vocal mic to turn into another overhead.
