What is Bridged Mono Mode?

What is bridged mono mode?

Bridged mono couples the two channels on a power amp to drive a single output. By combining the channels on the power amp, the output power is also combined. Note that the minimum impedance load for the amp is also increased. For example, if your amp has an output power of 500 Watts per channel at 2 Ohms, the bridged mono power would be about 1000 Watts at 4 Ohms.

500 Watts X 2 = 1000 Watts; 2 Ohms X 2 = 4 Ohms.

Bridged mono mode is most commonly used to deliver a high-power signal to a single speaker, although it can also be used with 2 speakers, as long as the overall impedance of the two speakers is compatible with the power amp (see our sections on impedance matching and daisy-chaining speakers).
