What is a Chorus effect?

What is a Chorus effect?

Chorus effects can make a single instrument sound like a group of players. It adds a rich, lush, shimmering quality to your sound.

Here's how it works: when 2 people play the same song together, there is naturally some delay between the sounds they produce. The pitch of the instruments can also differ a bit. This is exactly what the chorus effect does. A delay line is used to get the slight delay, and by varying that delay, the pitch is slightly detuned. The result is the rich, shining sound of two instruments playing at almost the same time.

Chorus is commonly used with acoustic electric guitars to fatten up the sound and give it extra sparkle. There are a variety of cool chorus units available as dedicated stomp boxes, multi-effects units, or studio processors.
