Cold Weather and Extreme Heat can have a Great Impact on Your Instrument!

You are enjoying ordering your new gear from the climate controlled area of your home or office, right?

Well, the instrument has to be shipped to you in one manner or another and right now there are some very extreme weather conditions across the country and chances are the guitar will have to travel through one or more of those areas to make it to you in just a few days or so.

It is not the extreme weather that can affect your new purchase as much as how we handle the item once it is received! Your purchase is perfectly safe to ship, we just want to make sure that we relay some information to make sure that your purchase has the chance of this one becoming your favorite.

Like a newborn from the hospital, we have to care for the things that cannot take care of themselves. The instrument does not have an option here, so you will have to take care of it…

As hard as it may be resisting that temptation to open it right away…. Let the box and the case have a chance to acclimate to the room temperature before opening it.

This will reduce the risk of immediate changes in temperature that causes finishes to crack or internal bracing to shift. Some finishes hold up better than others, but it varies from the actual application to the type of finish material used. This is actually one of the ways vendors "relic" some models of guitars! This process could take 6 or more hours, so relax and let it happen naturally.

Remember

· Trying to speed up this process could cause more harm than good. Similar issues will occur when trying to enhance the climate surrounding the guitar.

· Just running your hand over the case to feel if it has warmed up will not work in these instances because the case will warm up far quicker than the contents.

· Many Vendors will not cover these types of damages that may occur to finishes in these types of conditions, so we urge you to allow at least 6-24 hours depending on the differential between outside/inside temps for the guitar to naturally acclimate itself to the new environment.

· Condensation is only part of the problem. Extreme heat, extreme cold, and a snap in temperature difference will result in finish cracks.
