Different Drumstick Types

Why are there different types of stick wood?

Although hickory is the most common wood type, you will find others like maple or even oak. Hickory is considered to be the moderately heavy wood. It is the best combination when it comes to weight and durability. That's probably why hickory is the most common. Maple sticks are very light weight, not as loud, and for the same reason not as durable. Oak is the most durable wood stick on the market. It has a lot of weight to it as well. You will also find sticks made out of aluminum or graphite. These sticks are definitely the most durable on the market. They don't necessarily feel like a wood stick, but they aren't intended to.
