Bank statement authorizations

What happens if you see the same transaction listed as both pending and posted on your bank statement?

Most major banks follow the practice of releasing the pending authorization before posting the amount when the merchant collects payment. However, somebanks may treat the settlement as a separate transaction and continue to hold the initial authorization until it expires. This may look like you have been double-billed, but don’t worry as the bank will always remove the initial authorization hold once it expires. If this does happen and you need access to the funds right away, first verify the authorization code is the same. If it’s different it’s likely a separate transaction. If the authorization code is the same for the pending and posted transaction, we recommend that you inform your bank.
