Yamaha

collapse expand iconDescription

From the tip of the headstock to the bottom strap button, the Yamaha TRBX504 bass is a great value, but more than that, it's a great instrument. Equipped with all of the features a committed student needs in order to advance on his or her instrument, the TRBX504 sounds and plays great, and offers a variety of sounds that are appropriate to a variety of playing styles.

The TRBX504 features a sculpted solid mahogany body, with a mass-optimized 3D design for the optimum balance between tone and comfort coupled with perfect weight distribution. The neck design combines a fast, ultracomfortable profile with 5-piece maple/mahogany laminated construction for outstanding stability and excellent tone.

Equipped with YGD-designed H5 pickups, the TRBX504 offers clean, open tone that's perfectly matched with the flexibility of the active/passive preamp design. Their quad-polepiece design and alnico magnets give them the power to drive the active circuit and the sensitivity and subtlety to capture every nuance in passive mode. The audiophile-grade active/passive circuit on the TRBX504 gives you fine tonal control and extreme flexibility. The advanced design offers a level-matched output whether in passive or active mode and tone-switching circuitry that seamlessly moves from treble control to master passive tone. High-quality gold plated parts are used for key signal chain contacts, providing increased conductivity and reliability and a battery alert LED installed on the back panel gives instant indication of low power to eliminate sudden power loss during performance.

Other features include a precision-fitted bolt-on neck joint for maximum adjustability and clear, punchy tone. Developed through hundreds of hours of play-testing, the refined neck joint shape perfectly balances strength, vibration transfer and upper-fret access. A high-mass die-cast bridge efficiently transfers string vibrations to the body for full, rich tone combined with excellent adjustability and road-tested durability. 19 mm string spacing on the 4-string model offers outstanding playability for technical slap or finger styles. Straight string pull from nut to machine head eliminates lateral tension, providing superior tuning stability and reducing overtones. The 38 mm (4-string) nut width gives fast, comfortable playability for any style.

I bought this as a second bass. The electronics failed immediately and I returned the bass. Absolute shame as it is a beautiful instrument with a nice neck.

I've been playing for over 30 years. I mainly play a fretless bass but I like to play a fretted bass at times. My old fretted bass is worn out and spending 2k on an instrument that isn't my main go to bass is not something I'm going to do. This Yamaha is a great bass. The finish is perfect. Even in the hole to adjust the truss rod. I got the translucent black and It's a very black matte look. The frets are not super polished but are not sharp or sloppy. They play really nice, stand tall, and are capable of a wide variety of tones with different playing stlyes. The 5 piece neck is really playable. I'm really digging it. Mine is perfectly adjusted right out of the box. Tuning pegs have a really cool gunmetal finish and are adjustable if the ever get sloppy. Bridge is the same gunmetal finish and isn't high mass but it's not flimsy like the stock fender and it is the standard 5 screw type if I ever decided to change it. I don't think I'll do it anytime soon. The sustain resonates so well. Maybe better than my pricey fretless. I'm really into the mahogany body. Mine came with the intonation setup perfectly. It shipped detuned as it should've. All I did was stretch the string and tune it. Man do these electronics shine. I've got to spend some more time really learning the controls but I was able to dial in a few tones I wanted to try immediately. My first impression of the strings is that they really suck. Maybe that's true but they do play well and they're not dead but I bought a set of my favorite strings that I'll get on when I get sick of these. Overall I got a lot more bass than I expected for the money. A beginner could really grow into this and more advanced players should be quite satisfied.

I use only this bass. I've tried Musicman, Fender precision.... Nothing to do . Yamaha is lighter, more beautiful, it has a super tone, you can switch from passive to active, and the playability is just perfect. At this price, you can't find better.

Ordered this bass from Guitar Center's website and for some reason they are incapable of same day shipment like every other web retailer. That aside, when I recieved the bass, the set up was non existent. It is shipped with the strings loosened and based on how the nut, the frets, and the neck relief was when tuned, not only was the set up non-existent but the quality control was as well. I brought the bass into one of the local GC stores to see what they could do. The technician filed the nut, filed the uneven frets, and tried to get the correct neck relief. All of these things did not change the poor quality of construction of the neck. I decided to return the bass on the condition that they would get me one in a manufacturer's sealed box and not one off the shelf of one of their other stores. I waited the 5 days (was supposed to be overnighted - at my expense). Well, true to form the bass showed up at the store and was NOT in a sealed manufacturer's box and looked like some 15 year old abused it as it sat on the shelf. Also, this one had the same exact neck issues as the first one. I told them to keep it and give me my money back. I am a big fan of Yamaha musical instruments and the low quality of this bass really surprised me. What surprised me more was the ridiculously poor service. Lesson learned.
