Seymour Duncan Hot Rodded SH-4/SH-2 Humbucker Pickup Set, Black Black

Description
The Seymour Duncan Hot Rodded SH-4/SH-2 humbucker pickup set provides two of the most versatile and popular humbuckers ever built—the SH-4 JB bridge pickup and SH-2 Jazz neck pickup. Together, they deliver an array of tones ideal for hard rock, metal, blues, country and beyond. The SH-4 JB bridge pickup delivers a tight low end, rich highs and an aggressive midrange perfect for high-gain styles, while the SH-2 Jazz neck pickup provides a warm, articulate tone with scooped mids suited for any genre.
SH-4 JB Bridge Pickup: High-Output Versatility
The SH-4 JB bridge pickup is Seymour Duncan's best-selling pickup of all time thanks to its high output and tonal versatility. Its hot coils and Alnico 5 magnet produce a punchy midrange, tight low end and singing highs that excel in hard rock and metal, but also work well for blues, country and classic rock. Whatever your style, the SH-4 JB helps you achieve an iconic hard-rock tone.
SH-2 Jazz Neck Pickup: Smooth and Balanced
The SH-2 Jazz neck pickup uses an Alnico 5 magnet and customized coil wind to deliver a warm yet articulate tone with a scooped midrange. Originally designed as a matching pair for the SH-4 JB bridge pickup, the SH-2 Jazz works well in any genre and provides tonal balance to high-output bridge pickups. Its smooth, balanced tone and fast response make it ideal for shredding up and down the neck.
Handcrafted in the USA Using Premium Materials

They feature Alnico 5 magnets, nickel silver bottom plates, 4-conductor lead wires for multiple wiring options and are wax potted to eliminate squeal and feedback at high volumes.

A Great Upgrade
I own an Epiphone Les Paul Standard and i quickly realised that the sound coming off of the pickups tended to get muddled when playing chords. Since I'm on a budget ,when I noticed these, I had to get them. Don't be fooled by the low price when compared to Gibson pickups. This set rocks! When I first played my guitar after having the pickups changed I immediately noticed a difference. Chords sound much cleaner, even with distorion, and solos sound wicked! Don't expect a miracle though these can't totally trasform a guitar but for my epi they worked great.

Not for heavy
I thought these would be versatile enough to be able to switch between clean and heavy distortion...not the case. They are better than the stock musicman pickups in my sub1 but get muddy when playing leads with distortion. I have had the pearly gates p/u before and they are twice the pickup. The stock duncan designed pickups on my Schecter C1+ where better than these!

Awesome tone!

Bought this set to upgrade my double fat Strat. The JB absolutely screams, with the perfect amount of punch and sustain to play a solo, while the Jazz is bright with just the right amount of roundness. It's a good pickup set for rock or heavy blues.

First off, in general, I like Seymour Duncan's pickups. The build quality and tone are consistent and bring most guitars to life. I even have my own set of custom wound SD pickups called Tempest which I have installed in Les Pauls and a Byrdland. But sometimes, you want somethign with more ooomph. That's where the Hot Rodded JB (SH-4) and Jazz Models (SH-2) come in. The story has it that Seymour created the classic JB bridge and Jazz neck humbucker combination while in England all the way back in 1974. 50 years later and this combination is still one of the most popular that guitarists install. Hotrodding the combination brings new life to a tried-and-true pickup combination. The JB Model's (bridge position) hot coils and alnico 5 bar magnet will bring you an "unmistakable upper midrange attack, a tight, articulate low end, and harmonically rich highs that really sing." This is taken from the SD website and it is very true. I think the JB is great for blues, rock, hard rock, and, with the right amp/pedal, metal. I don't play country or jazz so I can't speak to those genres. The Jazz Model (neck position) has an alnico 5 bar magnet and a coil wind that creates an articulate, glassy treble response while also offering a tight low end. The midrange is scopped and gives off a unique tonal character that decades of guitarists have fallen in love with. These pickupts have the aforementioned alnico 5 magnets, a silver bottom plate, 4-conductor lead wire, and are vacuum wax potted for squeal-free performance. The 4-conductor wiring allows for multiple wiring options whether a traditional 50s Les Paul wiring, a more modern wiring, a Jimmy Page wiring...whatever you want. So...the big question remains, why get the hot rodded over the traditional JB/Jazz combination? It comes down to personal preference. My first set of these went into a 2011 Les Paul that had Burstbucker pickup but sounded dull on the lower registered and tinny on the top. I put a set of JB/Jazz in and it greatly improved the tone, but it was still lacking something. A friend recommended the hot rodded versions, so I installed them and the guitar came to life. It is fantastic for rock from AC/DC to ZZ Top. If you like the sound of the JB/Jazz combination, but want a little more oooomph, this is the set to buy.

What A Great Pair Of Pickups

I recently built a Les Paul DIY Kit and added a pair of SD's Hot Rodded Pickups. I had to order the JB In the Trembucker Configuration for the F Spacing Required. I'm about 3/4 of the way through my build and the pickups look great with the Blue Burst Finish I did. Can't wait to hear them when I'm done. I also have a Les Paul DIY Kit that had epiphone ProBuckers and they were a bit muddy so I added these and used the push/pull stock Hardware and it sounds great. Excellent compressed sound and versatile. I can jam to 70's Rock as well as 80's Metal and the JB and Jazz are awesome. Check out YouTube if you get a chance and listen to the demo's. You'll be amazed at the tone and range.
