  • Great Ride, but not that versatile for quieter styles...

I?ve bought my Sig Full ride in 2006 and since then it has been my main ride. I play, mainly, Dave Matthews band and also some hard rock, pop rock and heavy metal songs. For these styles this ride fits perfectly. It has a clear and loud bell, and a beuatiful tone. However there are 2 aspects which should be said: 1) it is a quite loud cymbal... So this ride is not really a good option for quieter styles, such as, jazz and bossa nova. When I play these styles I always grab a K constantinople or a Paiste traditional medium ride, since the full ride is quite loud... 2) The overtones are a bit annoying and a bit "out of control". In soft moments, when the instruments of the band are playing light stuff the overtones seem a bit "out of place". I use a piece of duct tape to control the overtones (and so does Jared Falk...). Anyway, it is a nice ride...!!!

I built a new kit from the ground up, drums, hardware and all new cymbals. I hunted, tested and filtered through TONS of rides, and this one came out on top. I was looking for a ride that had a nice, wet, crisp and open ride sound, one that opens well, has a strong bell, and could chorus crash. This ride passes all my tests swimmingly. The bell is SUPER loud, very tight and gets a good reaction from the bow of the cymbal as well. I love the ride sound, as it is relatively traditional and versatile, yet it crashes like a champ. As labeled, this cymbal is FULL. When i chorus crash with it, i do not have to dig AT ALL and it will fill the whole room. Totally awesome, because that leaves all my other crashes open for different combinations and they aren't already opened. I love having that option. You do have to play it with discipline. If you want a typical ride sound, you have to play high on the bow. as you travel down you star opening up more, more than most rides will. Some people may not like that, but I love it because it gives me that many more textures to crescendo with. Despite it's very high dynamic ceiling, it can play so nice, so clean and quiet. I play a lot of worship, and this ride delivers every dynamic I want exactly the way I want it. You don't have to work hard on this cymbal and I appreciate that. With a little practice, you can make this ride a wonderfully expressive instrument all by itself. All in all, this is a rock cymbal, and the Signature Paiste's DO NOT BREAK. These things are strong! i highly recommend this to any rock player who needs a workhorse with a tender side.

This is a great ride. It has a bit too much build in a small space, but all in all it meets my needs as an all purpose ride. The bell is cutting and it is possible to get a good crash sound.
