Shells With a Clear Voice

As mentioned above, TAMA Superstar shells have always been valued for their tone and build quality. The shells for the Superstar Classic CL72SBAB are 100% maple, with the 8", 10" and 12" rack toms, 14" and 16" floor toms, and 14" snare made from six 5 mm plies and the 22" kick drum from eight 7 mm plies. The shells deliver warm, balanced, clear tones from the combination of maple, precision 45° bearing edges and rich overtones from the triple-flanged hoops.

Perfectly Matched Heads

The choice of drum heads is always critical. The Superstar Classic CL72SBAB is fitted with TAMA Power Craft II heads for both batter and resonant heads on all drums, with muffle rings on the kick heads. These quality heads help enable the drums to exhibit a wide tuning range and tonal variety, regardless of your playing style or preferred genre.

Hardware That Helps Maintain Tone

Aside from boasting classic TAMA T-shape badges, the Superstar Classic CL72SBAB features low-mass lugs that don't inhibit the natural shell resonance. The kick drum-mounted Omnisphere tom holder uses TAMA's ingenious Star-Mount suspension system with swiveling eyebolts, which give easy access to the full range of tom adjustments. This suspension system also further enables the drums to ring freely. Other hardware touches include notched bass drum spurs, for easy leveling and padded claw hooks on the bass drum, to protect the matching wood hoops.

Best Entry Into 100% Maple Money Can Buy

The only other contender to the Superstar Classic for all maple drums that won't break the bank is the Pearl Decade Maple. Upon comparing the two, I found Tama to have better hardware, better finish, and just an overall better quality. Advice: get rid of the stock Tama heads. I sold them brand new on Craigslist and got $100 for them, so essentially lowered the kit price by $100. Recommend you buy this set during one of Guitar Center's sales or trade some gear to get 15% off. The kit can be had for so cheap if you do this. Spend some dollars and put some good heads on. That's key. My recommendations are either Remo or Evans. I am personally using Remo Clear Emperor on all tom tops and Remo Clear Ambassador on all tom bottoms. I'm using Coated Controlled Sound reverse black dot on snare top and Ambassador Hazy Snare Side on bottom. For bass pedal side, I am using Powerstroke 3 clear and on resonant side, I'm actually using the black Tama head as it looks best. Installed a Kickport in Granite color (matches perfect). I put in the Kickpro pillow inside and a black Evans EQ double bass patch for my kick beater. I'm using Tama Iron Cobra 900 Series Powerglide pedals, Iron Cobra 900 series hi-hat stand, the Cobra Clutch, Tama 1st Chair Ergo Rider Throne, and Tama cymbal stands. Highly recommend the Ahead Armor drum mat (I got the huge one), their rolling cymbal bag, their deluxe stick bag, and their padded drum cases. Star-mount hardware for toms is great. Not bulky and doesn't seem to alter the drum sound. Easy to adjust and rock solid. The Midnight Gold Sparkle needs to be seen in person as the pictures don't do it justice. It's like a charcoal filled with silver sparkles. Best scheme I've seen to be honest for a wrap. Looks mean, solid, and high-end. I ordered another rack tom, 13x10, another bass drum 22x18, and another floor tom 18x16 so that my kit is massive. Sound is excellent with good heads and knowing how to tune. Highly recommend the Tune-Bot.

    I use this everyday and it looks beautiful and sounds amazing this drum set is amazing the heads are high quality and overall I would buy this Drumset if you a upgrade this would be what you should get.

    I've been into music since early childhood. Always been a drummer. My oldest grandson , guess he was born into it. He plays string instruments also. He started getting into percussion instruments and hey its Christmas, now he has some drums. Paired with Tama Roadpro hardware, Tama 600 hi hat , Dbl kick Iron Cobra pedals and some Zildjians he's been rockin' it. Great set.....quality & craftsmanship is excellent.

    You won't find a better kit in this price range. Toms sing right out of the box, even with the stock heads. The finish is out of this world also.I did however replace the stock heads with Evans ec2's on the toms and an emad system on the bass drum. Ive been playing for over 30 years and these drums won't disappoint

    This is a great kit! If you're a real drummer and know how to tune your drums this kit sounds just as good as any "upscale" kit. Love everything about them especially the look.
