collapse expand iconDescription

Tama’s Starclassic series has become highly acclaimed and reinforced Tama’s reputation as an exceptional drum maker since its 1994 launch. This series has inspired a personal connection to a modernized sound derived from various drum shell materials throughout its history: Maple, birch, bubinga and birch/bubinga. Each shell material produced a tangible sonic difference, enabling drummers to select and personalize their own specific sound.

For Tama, Starclassic has represented versatility, durability and continuous sonic evolution using different wood shell materials. The evolution of Starclassic continues, and now - after intense analysis, rigorous research, development and product testing – Tama has arrived at the latest Starclassic development, Starclassic Walnut/Birch. By analyzing the perfect ratio of walnut to birch, Tama was able to engineer a superior quality of low-to-mid frequency warmth that perfectly complements the clear attack and higher frequency projection of birch. The rich/clear, cutting sound is familiar, but distinctively different from Tama sounds of the past.

The Walnut/Birch shell for toms and floor toms is 6 mm thick and constructed using 4-ply European Birch for the outer plies with 2-ply American Black Walnut interior plies. The bass drum shell specification is 8 mm, 5-ply European Birch outer plies with 2-ply American Black Walnut interiors. The interior walnut shell ply includes a lacquer coating treatment, which adds an element of liveliness to the overall tone.

Drum hardware includes die-cast hoops, Star-Cast Mounting System, and Quick-Lock brackets on the toms and floor toms. These features ensure precise tuning, crisp sonic attack, flexible adjustability, as well as overall rock-solid durability and stability.

The Starclassic series continues to represent Tama’s extensive drum-making experience, wisdom and pursuit to offer refined and differentiated drum sounds. Starclassic Performer Walnut/Birch defines Tama’s commitment to evolve their sounds and inspire the contemporary drummer.

I would totally buy this again, while it may seem less for your mulah than some other Tama stuff, i'm here to tell you this is worth the bankruptcy. sure I did buy it with the funding of a recording label behind me. but it is still worth it for any experienced drummer. It is better made than some Tama kits with more pieces, plus it has the wide range of colors (I have the Satin Purple Atmospheric Fade.) which you won't find elsewhere even on other Tama kits. But one thing is, if you are looking for something with a snare and cymbals and hardware, your out of luck. sure it is a big price for just 4 toms and a kick drum, but if you are an experienced drummer looking for a high quality, your own look, and already have some good hardware and cymbals, and a snare, this is for you.

  • I would buy this product again and again if I had more limbs

I've owned a variety of drums, old/new, Ludwigs/DW/TAMA/Cooleys. For the price point the new STARCLASSICS WB is a grand slam homerun. The superior quality of low-to-mid frequency warmth perfectly complements the clear attack and higher frequency projection of birch. The rich/clear, cutting sound is familiar, but distinctively different from Tama sounds of the past. There's a qualitative reason why the units are ALL in back ordered. I'm just stoked i got mine! Enjoy

  • Awesome kit with one major problem

The kit sounds amazing, as well as looks really cool. The one major problem is how the toms and floor toms are mounted. There are two parts to the lock for each floor leg and Tom arm. The part attached to the drum abd the part that can come off. There is a little locking mechanism that you can use to lock and unlock the legs and arms quickly, the problem is it makes the drum very wobbly and unsecured. It is more pronounced in the floor toms then toms. I mean they stand up fine, they are not going to fall over, they are just very wobbly. It's quite annoying, especially for such an expensive kit.
