good pickup
It it is what I expected, and that is good. I needed to use ART tube preamp to get just the right sound I wanted, but vol at 3:00 position would probably do for most settings. It makes a difference how you position the ends along the sound hole. keep the cushions below, middle , or above for more detailed sound. I have a 12 string larrivee all mahogany , and needed to tone down a little by keeping the pickup low from the stings...worked well.

Bought this pickup from Guitar Center. I figured it'd be good since I have a couple guitars without pickups I'd like to play out at open mics/bar gigs occasionally. The thing is barely functional..? One of the places I play at, the house PA system does not pickup a signal from it at max volume. My PA system picks up a soft buzzy signal at it's max volume, same result from my guitar amplifiers. (It's not worth it, the buzz is too loud) Bummed, I completely misplaced the receipt. Got it like a year ago, but I lose sleep over it. For example I'm writing this review right now at 2 in the morning, a year later. I'm just confused, did I get a defective product?

LOL, I say I am an expert because I have used it for years. I previously used a Dean Markley, very similar, but those have serious cord issues. I have never had a Woody fail me. Amazing. Now, there is a bit of fall off in the volume level. Can't help it; just the way it is. If I am going directly into a board, I consider using my Baggs Pre-Amp. I prefer not to because this Woody Soundhole pickup really gives my Martins a lovely warm sound. I don't like internal pickups. They all seem to give a brassy / tinny / over-gain sound. This pickup keeps it warm and mellow. I finger pick and strum, and it is excellent for both. As a previous review notes, you can equalize a bit by the way you position it. This is THE only sound hole pickup that I would consider buying. Others (including Fishmans) are just to brassy, and the Duncan breaks. If you are worried about signal fall, consider a pre-amp pedal. I do gigs with this pickup, and I love the sound. Did I mention I love this pickup?
Fails to capture acoustic tone

It's loud and easy and clear and hum-free, and it looks great with my Martin 000-15. But the sound is a LOT different than what I expected. Imagine taking a pickup from your electric and popping it into the soundhole of your acoustic. That's what you get. It makes my Martin sound like hollow-body electric guitar (fair enough, since that's kind of what a pickup does), but not a Martin with a full-range of acoustic warmth and sparkle.

Easy to install, and remove. I prefer temporary pickups, and I can't stand undersaddle piezo systems as they dampen your tone and resonance. The guitar I had came with a undersaddle pickup system and I removed it for better tone, sustain, and resonance. This is a great pickup for the money but you will want to run through a preamp to get more volume and EQ out of it.

This soundhole pickup reproduces my guitar's sound pretty well. You can make slight adjustments in the placement so you can make the high or low strings' sound more prominent. There is a 14 foot cord to plug into your amp or DI. You could use this in a professional application because the quality is good, but I think most professionals would prefer a permanently installed pickup.
