A Tone Beyond its price
We needed a better sounding drum set for our church. The former kit was a bottom of the line PDP. I compared this to the new Gretsch Catalina and Yamahas in this price range. Both had thicker shells, which is great for projection, but we didn't need that. Plus the hardware on the PDP was a cut above. This new Concept line is a great buy in tone. The two surprises in this set are the very punchy bass drum and the very good sounding snare. The toms also sound very good. The hardware is also a cut above most sets in it's price range. Let's be honest, this isn't a DW Collectors series set. I know because I own one. But this is a seriously good semi-pro kit with a very good sound and hardware. If you're looking for a kit under $1500 this is a great choice.

I would buy this product again.... NOT from guitar center
The PDP concept maple kit is awesome.... I would buy it AGAIN.... I'm not sure if I will deal with guitar center again though.... They had one chance to impress me but they fell short....I hold a gear card with them....i just don't know if I'm gonna use it anymore

This set is way better than it has any right being! I'm not great at tuning but these tuned up so easy and sounded better than anything I'd played before. Swapped out the stock batter heads with Evans EC2's and a Superkick 2 on the bass and it has the exact tone I had been searching for.
Great tone for the money

If want that bright maple crack and tone and don't want to spend a grand, these are a great choice. Great for all applications and all types of music. Changed out the stock single ply heads over to Evans G2 and boy do they sing! There are cheaper kits... but they lack the warm tone these have. You get DW engineering and tech for less than half the $$$. Great looks and sound, I get many compliments from many players on both.

I've owned three PDP sets. M5, Cocept gen. 1, and now gen. 2 and this has been the best yet. I've tried 3 different Evans brand drum heads and the coated ec2's seem to always give the best tone on the shells but on these drums they absolutely sang to me the first time I put them on. I'm still trying different heads, but I think they might be the best in the studio for this set. Amazing sound.

Color me impressed with DW's PDP Concept Maple 5 piece drum set. DW has hit it out of the park with this kit in many ways. I bought the Ebony Stain Lacquer set, which is a new finish that echoes finishes in DW's Performance and Collectors Series lines. Finish - A primary reason I bought the kit and I was not disappointed. Beautiful lacquer finish with a hint of the wavy maple wood grain showing, which is an effect that I really like. Was impressed with the lacquer finish on the natural wood portion of the bass drum hoops. The kit appearance will go great with my Ebony Performance Series snare, although the stain is slightly darker on the kit drums (including the excellent CM 5.5 x 14 snare). In sum, a gorgeous finish that has more of an eggplant appearance in brighter natural lighting. Very cool. Set up and tuning was a breeze. There was only one lug that was a little sticky, which is no big deal. I put some new DW heads on (clear with the white ring dampeners) rather than the PDP logo heads included. The included heads look fine and appear to be clear Remo Ambassadors or very similar, The tuning for the toms was a breeze and I was able to get a really good tone on all three in pretty short order. The 16 inch floor tom really booms. I put an Evans Emad on the 22 inch bass drum and it too has a booming projection and the pedal rubber pad on the hoop was a nice little bonus. Tom mounts have the memory locking hardware and an additional clamp/grabber to add a cymbal arm or even some other accompaniment above the toms. Nice feature. Snare is very good quality. Features 10 lugs and a notably heavy duty coated batter head. It is easy to tune, loud, and sounds solid at different pitches. In conclusion, I'm extremely pleased and impressed with this set. It is high quality and plays close to a pro-sounding kit, but at a very reasonable price. A great kit that is hard to beat in this price range, especially if maple is your preference.

Can you seperate the tomes from mount of the Kick Drum. I use a rack so i want to be able to seperate them for space.
You can mount the toms on your rack with the right attachments instead of the bass drum.submitted7 years ago

If I pay by month do I get the drumset when I make a payment or do I have to pay it off then get it ?
It depends. If you're doing a Layaway with the store, you get the drums when you pay it off, but if you use the Guitar Center Credit card then you get it before you start paying on it.submitted7 years ago
