MEINL

collapse expand iconDescription

Made in the time-honored Indian tradition, the tablas' goatskin heads are secured by metal rings and rawhide straps. They are tuned by adjusting wooden rollers fitted under the straps. The large drum has an 8-1/2" head and chrome-plated copper body. The smaller one has a 5-1/2" head and rosewood body. The set of Tabla drums includes a tuning hammer.

Other guy either doesn't know how to play or doesn't know how to tune them, just got them today and they sound great, would reccomend getting a hook though because trying pull the straps to get the tuning pegs under with just your hands will tear them up, great value

If you know how to play tabla, these are great. If you do not know how to play tabla, you will not like these. If you want to learn tabla, these are great. If you think you know it all, you will not like these.

I recently purchased this tabla as a way of starting out. I am 45years old and have been playing drums since I was 14. So I am not new to drumming. My wife is east Indian and is a trained classical Indian dancer and she is practicing all the time and playing the music so I know what the Tabla is supposed to sound like. After removing them from the box,I thought wow they look cool! I tried to get some tone. no matter what I did it surely did not sound like a tabla. I pulled up some videos and realized this drum is just for show. no matter how tight or loose the drums are just not tunable.
