Big Muff Pi with Tone Wicker - Demo by Dave Weiner - Distortion/ Sustainer

Electro-Harmonix

collapse expand iconDescription

Building on the legendary Big Muff Pi distortion, this innovative pedal provides guitarists an array of distortion flavors at the flick of a switch. The Big Muff Pi's signature thick, creamy distortion forms the foundation. Engage the Wicker switch to open up three high-frequency filters, unleashing a raspy, defined sustain with searing top-end. Flip on the Tone switch to bypass the tone control for a full-frequency assault. With both switches off, you get the classic Big Muff Pi tone that shaped rock music. For over 40 years, Electro-Harmonix has been turning guitarists' dreams of unique distortion into reality. The Big Muff Pi with Tone Wicker continues that legacy.

Wicker Switch Unlocks Raspy, Defined Distortion

The Wicker switch is the gateway to the Big Muff Pi with Tone Wicker's most aggressive tones. Flipping the Wicker switch opens three high-frequency filters, resulting in a distortion with enhanced treble content and articulation. Notes sustain intensely with a scratchy, biting edge. For lead lines that cut through the mix, the Wicker switch is essential. The tone is hot enough to melt faces yet remains dynamic and touch-sensitive for expressive playing.

Bypass the Tone Control for Full-Spectrum Slam

Want pure, unadulterated distortion? Flip on the Tone switch to bypass the tone control. The result is a wall of distortion spanning the entire frequency range. Lows remain full and powerful, mids stay present without scooping, and highs sizzle with harmonic content. For heavy riffing and power chord progressions, the Tone switch delivers. Despite its high gain and broadband tone, the distortion remains responsive to pick attack and guitar volume adjustments.

Iconic Big Muff Pi Tone and More

At its core, the Big Muff Pi with Tone Wicker provides the iconic Big Muff Pi tone that shaped the sound of rock music. With both switches off, you get the classic Big Muff Pi distortion: thick, creamy and sustaining. The tone is balanced across the frequency spectrum, with a hint of mids scoop for a slight midrange bump. From David Gilmour to Jack White, guitarists have relied on the Big Muff Pi to define their sound.

Exactly what I was looking for

I have spent the last 3 weeks researching and testing out pedals to get the exact sounds I was looking for in a pedal and this is exactly what I was looking for. It gets the crunch, the satch, the fuzz, everything man. At 90 bucks this thing is a steal and cant be passed up. The wicker switch is a great way to crank things up and have a good time. And any Jack White fans out there, this is a definite must once you get the POG. Love it.

Muddy and Indistinct

Even with the wicker switch turned in, it sounds overly muddy and indistinct. Compared side by side, my '00 NYC BMP has way more bite and has that "wall of sound" that I associate with Big Muffs, while the BMP tone wicker sounds flat and thin. Each iteration of Big Muffs is different, and this one is not for me.

If you're willing to buy a noise suppressor to follow it in your chain then it's got a solid gain and strong sustain

  • A must have
