I wanted this as my DI that I could throw in my bag when I didn't need my wireless unit and larger board. When I played it at home it sounded great with my 15w amp however I took it to my 1st gig and It was so noisy I had to stop using it. Took it to my 2nd gig of the day and same thing. Very disappointed and I'll be returning it and trying something else
Appears to be a good pedal

First pedal I owned and it seems to work fine. No issues with the unit. Still getting used to it, so don't know if there is anything better.
The Battalion Bass Preamp and DI pedal is superb!

I purchased the Battalion to upgrade from my simple DI box which, essentially, only offered ground lift as a feature. The preamp tone shaping and distortion lent to lots of creative ideas for live performance and recording. The gate and compressor features are serving to make my grin so much larger! This unit is a must have for the working and touring bassist! Top Gear (and nothing to do with cars!) EHX is a reputable brand that I have much experience with, and I actually saved a little by NOT ordering immediately when it was introduced because it wasn't in the stores. The wait was well worth it! Bravo, EHX; I haven't been this happy since my Big M* Pi, and Dr Q days! The algorithm flagged the M word as possibly indecent! Ha!

I like this preamp. It's packed with functions: a nice 4-band EQ, a basic compressor,a drive section which you can adjust the blend, and a noise gate. Besides, it has a DI output. I don't really use the noise gate, but I use all other functions and I am satisfied with this pedal. The drive secion is mild, so if you are looking for some high gain distortion, you should probably consider DBBM Pi. There are indeed other preamps with good functions, but if you have a limited budget (like me), this one should be a good option, for the sound quality is quite good already.

I use this product as a preamp and DI for home recording at for live performances. I love the built in compression and the four band eq. The MOSFET Overdrive circuit is a bit noisy as compared to my stand alone fuzz pedal. Not sure why that is the case. The onboard noise gate to help make up for that a bit. Rugged construction and 9v power adapter was included.
