Marshall DSL40CRC 40W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp Cream Cream

I have had this amp for several months and it is one of my goto tube amps. I use it and/or a Vox AC15C1 daily and I love them both. The clean sound on the DSL40 has just the perfect Marshall growl. For me it adds a layer of soul that just feels right. One of the most important things is that this amp sounds great at virtually any volume. I use it in my home studio on low power (20-watts) and it is the biggest bedroom amp I have ever owned. It sounds great even when the volume is low enough that my wife and daughter can't hear it in the living room. If you check the specs on this amp, you will find that it has functionality beyond most amps in its price range. Bottom line, if my wife told me I had to scale down to only one amp, this would be the one I would keep.

Been playing guitar for 20 years have had dozens and dozens of amplifiers in the mid tier range. Just about every generation of Fender hot rod deluxe, blues jr, and DSL series going back to the JCM2000 days. This is the best yet. It looks the best. It has the best feature set. It SOUNDS the best. It is the most practical for any situation from bedroom, to recording, to stage use. And this particular model has an upgrade to the most important part of a guitar amplifier that guitar center failed to mention in their specs. A UK Made Celestion Vintage 30. Not a V-Type not a Standard Vintage 30 either. It is a Marshall Exclusive UK made Marshall Branded Celestion Vintage 30. If you look up "UK Made Vintage 30" You will see what i'm referring to. Looks identical to a vintage 30 sticker but Celestion stamped in the chassis of the speaker and a white MADE IN UK sticker on the magnet. A really awesome upgrade that really makes this amp sound better than the regular DSL40CR. It can handle anything you throw at it from blues and country to thrash and doom metal. It doesn't care. It just keeps delivering the goods. It sounds amazing no matter how you set it and is loud enough for any situation that any of us mortals will ever be in. And the price is sweet too. You aren't going to get more of an amp within anywhere near this price range. Reacts EXTREMELY well with any type of pedal you throw at it. Sounds great on its own. And just LOOK at it. That cream tolex with the basket weave grill cloth and vintage marshall block logo. Chefs kiss. Looks SOOOO good. Sounds even better. Has one of the best speakers you can get your hands on. Excellent transparent effects loop that is switchable as well. The reverb is kind of non existent, but that is easily remedied with a reverb pedal of your choice. Not going to knock points off of a Marshall for weak verb. It is a Marshall. Marshall's aren't known for reverb. OH another huge bonus of this over the old ones, the bias is now accessible on the chassis all you have to do is take off the back panel and the test points and bias pots are right there. Just need a good multimeter and common sense. So no longer need to take to a tech for retubes if you know what you're doing. Get this amp. You will love it. it is the best combo in its price range and i would say probably the best combo under $2000

As a gigging musician who loves the Marshall / Vox sound, this amp nails it! But to unlock the full potential of this fine amp one needs to buy the optional six button footswitch (PEDL-91016). The switch turns this two channel amp into a quasi four channel fire breather. You get a (1) pedal friendly Clean channel, (2) Classic crunch, (3) Solo 1, (4) Solo 2 - which is way more compressed, (5) Master Volume assign and (6) Effects Loop on/off. All these functions are available on the fly at the tap of your foot. Don't let people fool you about the reverb, it sounds just fine. The amp also is super easy to EQ and get a great tone. You need this amp!

In addition to a clean and dirty channel, there's a pushbutton alternate for both - thus, in a way, the amp offers 4 channels. Unfortunately, you can't foot-switch between all 4. (Even with the optional, fancier footswitch.) All 4 sound great. For session play, I like to decide which clean channel I mostly want to use and which dirty channel, adjust the 2 independent volume controls to taste, and now the footswitch will suffice to get me through. I tend to use the less dirty OD channel and step on my OCD if I want a bit more. It's a heavy amp, but only has a top handle - awkward. It really needs side handles, a sad design oversight. There is a separate digital reverb control for both channels, but the effect is quite weak. (I have both dials maxed all the time, giving me a mild reverb that I like. But if you like it wetter, you'll need to add a separate stompbox. I can think of no more negatives. On the plus side, this is a well-built amp with sweet Marshall tube tone (EL34) and plenty of power. Flip it to 20w mode for quieter situations and practice, or use the full 40w for killer volume on top of all that tone. The first clean channel is sweet and pure, the other clean setting has some bite to it - almost like a class A amp, it's more reactive to your attack. Both dirty channels sound great, a solid overdriven tone and a heavier, almost grungy sound. This amp has plenty of punch for small to medium gigs. Add speakers if you wish for even bigger sound; it has the outputs for just about anything shy of a Marshall twin stack! It also offers a line out for recording and jacks for an effects loop, which I use and - contrary to some reviews I've seen - I don't experience severe volume loss when the loop is engaged. (Cool trick: the loop can be bypassed using the included footswitch.) The 2 channels have individual volume controls, but the tone controls are shared. Overall, this is a well-built, very good sounding and gorgeous Marshall combo amp that should satisfy any lover of Marshall tone. Chinese made, but that's not a detractor. This amp would cost twice as much if made in England.

I used it at a New Years gig and it was awesome. Got a lot of compliments on the amps look and sound. I love the cream cover grille cloth. It's a little heavy at 50 lbs but, worth every pound. I will be using it at more gigs that are coming up in the next few months. I have recommended it to a few of my fellow musician friends. All were impressed by its sound.
