Line 6 HX Stomp | Pete Thorn Unboxing and Demo

Introducing HX Stomp | Line 6

HX Stomp Out of the Box | Line 6

Description
The Line 6 HX Stomp packs the power and tone of the flagship Helix into an ultracompact stompbox design. With over 300 amps, cabs and effects modeled from Helix, M-Series and legacy Line 6 products, it provides a studio-quality guitar or bass rig in a rugged metal chassis built for stage and studio. The HX Stomp utilizes the same high-performance DSP chip and HX Modeling technology as Helix for pristine 24-bit/96kHz audio with an incredible 123dB of dynamic range.
Professional Processing Power
Run up to six simultaneous amp, cab and effect blocks at once, including a looper and IR loading. The HX Stomp provides extensive tone-crafting options for complex signal chains and split/parallel routing. The latest free firmware update adds additional amps, cabs, effects and features to keep your rig up to date.
Intuitive Control
Despite its small size, the HX Stomp is easy to operate with three capacitive-sensing footswitches, a color LCD display and external options. Connect two expression pedals or footswitches to the TRS input for additional control. Send program changes and automation via MIDI. The free HX Edit app provides extended editing and preset management on your Mac, PC, iOS or Android device.
Premium Audio
The HX Stomp delivers pristine 24-bit/96kHz audio with 123dB of dynamic range for depth, clarity and an ultralow noise floor. Premium components are utilized throughout for uncolored tone in any application—feeding an amp, going direct to FOH, re-amping in the studio or recording. A stereo effects loop and flexible I/O routing provide sophisticated integration into complex rigs.
Compact Yet Powerful
Despite its small size, the HX Stomp contains a complete guitar or bass rig for stage, studio and practice. Use it as a backup or travel rig, practice/rehearsal setup or complete guitar/bass recording solution. The durable metal chassis is built to withstand the demands of live performance in a package that fits into a backpack pocket.
Helix 3.80 firmware update (as of Nov. 2024), is free to download by any owners of this product.
This free firmware update for Helix and HX hardware devices and the 3.80 software update for the Helix Native plug-in finally delivers six of the most requested amp channels and four unique cabs. Although the focus is on new amps and cabs, please note that the HX Effects processor and HX One pedal will still receive a new free effect.

Versatility is in the eye of the beholder
the previous reviewer, while he loved the unit, lamented its lack of live versatility. I disagree. Picture a world in which you already have a big, fat 1/2 stack and foot-pedal live rig, with a modern, high gain, mid-switchable tube amp (v3, JVM, H+K, Laney, Engle, et cetera), and you are foot switching with midi. This little unit at x.x ounces becomes a huge-sounding replacement for your 160lbs of amp and cabinet, without any fear of blowing tubes, and never having to carry more than a pedal board, and WITHOUT paying $1500.00 for a Helix. It actually integrates seamlessly with my own live pedal board, which includes analog out front effects, including talkbox, wah, phase 90, micro flanger , a dd3 delay out front for repeat effects and a tube screamer. Add that pedal cost up, already invested. Instead of 'channel switching now, I use my 4 button Randall Midi footswitch to switch patches between Helix HX programs for Lead, Rhythm, Clean, and boosted clean, with effects-loop effects like delay, chorus and reverb on each model from within the Helix. It is, in essence, a 175lb weight loss and portability bargain. Instead of paying $1500.00 for a solution that replaces ALL of my investment, I cut out almost 200 pounds at less than half the price, without making my current outboard effects investments useless. It is a win-win for already-invested live musicians, on top of all its other features.

Without editor you are screwed!
Need to update operating system on computer to use editor software. Otherwise sounds like cheap whacky multifx pedal or dir pedal. Bought for amp models for playing through headphones. They do not sound authentic at all. I know about screwing around with impulse responses on pedal. Mic position and type, changing speaker. Lots of people are claiming you need to buy impulse responses for 20-30$ to tweak sound better. But for price you may drive yourself nuts. NAMM winter 2020 is just around corner and these are not selling so hot. I had something previous that sounded way more authentic in tone to amps and inspired me to play. Eventide uses Bluetooth technology for h9, isnt line 6 doing it instead sticking a dated printer cable into a computer? Still fighting to figure out this thing. BTW the line 6 m series should have been updated w/ fx on here even if their switches suck. I have/had four line 6 modeler pedals and found them to be greatly enjoyable. On the hx stomp, sounds like digital modeled compressed phoniness. Answers I await!

I replaced my trusty and awesome T.C. Electronic Nova System which so faithfully served me on my pedal board for more than 10 years and 100's of shows, with this beast of a machine. I'm loving the HX Stomp as the effects brain on my board. And would recommend it for any musician who wants to do more with less and downsize their effects pedal board. Now while this is a fantastic amp modeler and IR box, I'm using with my Marshall Jubilee 2525H and Marshall 1960A 4x12 cab with V30's. This mostly serves as my effects machine, but every so often I do run a preamp amp into my FX loop to get the Fender, Vox, Friedman BE or Soldano preamp sound thru my Marshall's power section, keeping tubes in the mix. In the future I plan to use the modeler + IR config for anything theater-based or in a touring rig where I have limits to weight and size when traveling.

I have been an amp and pedal guy for over 15+ years. I've owned several amps and pedalboards over the years and always wanted more out of my sound. I play bass and my typical rig consists of a split signal with a deep low end and some nice grit on top, which can be hard to achieve. Enter the HX Stomp. This robust unit lets you create signal chains that would otherwise be impossible to implement in a live situation. The amp and cab emulations are amazing and sound huge. From the SVT and G&K to the older Sunn and Acoustic amps, everything just sounds great. Very impressed with the hundreds of effects as well. The compressors, overdrives, flangers and modulation pedals all sound spot on, with little to no noise at all. The only aspect that I haven't been 100% impressed with is the synth/octave sections of this unit. They track well, but just sound a little off. I suppose that could be user error as there are so many parameters that can be adjusted within this little box. Overall I highly recommend this product to anyone looking to consolidate their live rig or just add to an existing pedal board. You won't regret it.

Can I route the Helix Stomp to a power amp and front of house at the same time? I know with the Helix floorboard products you can but not sure about the Stomp due to it's lack of xlr outputs.
This does not have a balanced output so it may require an DI box to balance out the signal to send to the front of the house. This does not have a balanced output so it may require an DI box to balance out the signal to send to the front of the house.submitted6 years ago
