Gibson

Description

Every inch a Gibson, the 2018 J-15 is handcrafted from solid North American tonewoods, pairing a Sitka spruce top with walnut back and sides, complemented by a maple neck. Built by Gibson's master-craftsmen using the same methods as all Gibson acoustic models, the J-15 has a hand-fitted dovetail neck-to-body joint secured with hide glue to ensure resonance from strings to body. Gibson's standard X-braced adds more pop to your performance, while the onboard L.R Baggs Element will allow you to play anywhere from a coffeehouse to an area show. The hand-sprayed nitrocellulose finish allows you to enjoy the unique character and grain of the Sitka spruce top.

Includes black hardshell case.

  • Just the sound (voice) I was looking for

I was looking for a guitar with a very different voice from my Taylor 310 that I bought new 18 years ago. Ove the Taylor, but it has an angelic voice that isn't always what I need. The Gibson delivered. It has a great "middle" voice, very adequate bass, and clear high notes. Where it stands out is projection and volume. It loves to me played hard, but can also be gently strummed and sound very nice. I was going to compare it to the Martin D16GT before purchasing but never got around to doing that, the Gibson is just what I wanted.

The guitar wasn't cheap but you get what you pay for. My son said the way the notes carry out is awesome. Great sound.

I was looking for solid wood construction with some deep tone. I fell in love with this guitar the first time I played it. I would call the walnut a cross between rosewood and mahogany. The bass and highs are great. The surprise to me was how good the midrange sounded. It really is a full-sounding guitar and the pickup still keeps the acoustic sound through the amplification.

I purchased this 2 years ago and love it. Stays in tune, sounds great. I bought the 17model that improved the feel of the neck. Electronics are really good never get feedback. The wood combination looks good, sounds good, plays like a dream. Took it to the Gibson service guy for set up (strings were high). I would get this again in a second. I play it 3-4 hours per week. Got it on sale at guitar center who beat everyone's price. Sales guy was knowledgeable and bent over backward for me. I can't say enough about the guitar and the service.

This guitar is unbelievable. I've never been been a fan of Gibson acoustics until now. I've had a Martin D-28 and Taylor 314ce for years...... I stopped by GC to window shop, picked this rig up off the wall and have simply not put it down since. The voice on the guitar is truly remarkable; the bottom end is simply booming, and the top end is bright and chiming. Take the best of what Taylor and Martin do, and it's wrapped up in this very special Gibson. I will never, ever, part company with this J-15.

First off never owned nor played a Gibson was always a Martin guy. This guitar stood out in sound, feel , and playability. It's finished and built super well couldn't find a flaw anywhere and can see why Gibson is a known brand like Martin. This Gibson will be replacing my others as it dominates. I don't use the pickup so no helpful review there but I'm sure it's great.

Is it sloped shoulder dread? Is it solid wood?

    Open Reply - Beau
This guitar is not a sloped shoulder dreadnought. The guitar is made from solid wood.

Just one question, what is the difference between the 2018 j-15 vs. 2019 j-15? Thanks for your help. Steve

Basically they are the same guitar. The only difference I can see is they have different shaped bracing.
