The Gibson Custom M2M Murphy Lab Fifty-Five Les Paul Standard Heavy Aged electric guitar is a testament to the timeless appeal of vintage instruments, tailored for those who cherish authentic tone and a played-in feel. Crafted by the skilled artisans at the Murphy Lab, each part of this guitar has been carefully aged, achieving a convincingly distressed finish that echoes the charm of a beloved 1955 original. With its mahogany body and maple top, this guitar offers a well-rounded, articulate sound that adapts seamlessly across diverse musical landscapes, making it a sought-after piece for enthusiasts of vintage tone.
Nitrocellulose Finish
In keeping with 1950s guitar aesthetics, this Les Paul has a nitrocellulose lacquer finish that has been heavily aged by Gibson's Murphy Lab. The aging process authentically recreates the worn finish of a vintage instrument by artificially fading and distressing the lacquer. As nitrocellulose lacquer ages, it develops a distinctive patina and translucence that many guitarists prefer for its vintage look and resonant tonal qualities. The aged finish gives this Les Paul a convincingly vintage vibe and appearance straight out of the case.
Soapbar P-90 and Custombucker Pickups
This Les Paul is equipped with a soapbar P-90 pickup in the bridge position that delivers punchy, growling tones. The P-90 has been a staple of rock music since the 1950s, used by artists like Pete Townshend and Billy Gibbons. In the neck position, a Custombucker humbucker provides a smooth, rounded tone for lead playing. With two volume and tone controls, you have full control over the pickup blend and tone.
Vintage-Spec Hardware
In keeping with its vintage aesthetics, this Les Paul features Kluson reissue tuners and an ABR-1 Tune-o-matic bridge. The tuners provide superior tuning stability, while the bridge enhances sustain and string resonance. Anchored to the body with a wraparound tailpiece, the bridge assembly gives the guitar a classic look and feel. The tuners, bridge and tailpiece are designed to faithfully recreate the components found on original 1950s Les Pauls.
Premium Tonewoods and Comfortable Mahogany Neck
A solid mahogany body and maple top provide the foundation for a balanced tone with clear, singing highs, tight lows and a touch of midrange warmth. This Les Paul also boasts a mahogany neck with a comfortable C profile typical of 1950s models. The neck thickness and taper have been carefully measured from original guitars to provide an authentic playing experience. With 22 medium jumbo frets, you have room for expressive lead playing all over the fingerboard. A rosewood fingerboard adds warmth and richness to the overall tone.
