G7th Newport Lightweight Capo Silver

I normally dread when I see someone pull out a capo because I know that was comes next is an out of tune guitar for the next tune. Recently I had a musical theatre gig which needed a capo. Normally I just do these songs without it anyway but this one had chords that were impossible without it. So I asked for some recommendations on capos from other guitarists. The G7 came up most and I am surprised and relieved that it doesn't negatively affect the tuning and when it does its a quick fix to adjust it. The small profile also stays out of the way even on very close fingerings to it. Highly recommended!

I was looking for a new capo and saw a friend of mine using a G7th. He had the Performance, but I decided I would go with the Newport due to being a bit cheaper and yet still having great reviews. This capo does not disappoint. You can easily set the tension to just the right amount and it looks great too! The only initial downside is that I could not clamp it to my headstock; it wouldn't go tight enough to do so. However, I found out that you can clamp it onto the neck and strings just behind the nut on the tuning machine side. It does not detune the strings doing this and when I want to use it, I just release the clamp and slide it up to the fret I need. So it ends up being easier to move and use than one you would keep clamped on your headstock.

Like many new players, I didn't usually put much though into my capo choice - it was mostly a matter of what was cheap and convenient. As my playing and my ear developed, I began to be more sensitive to intonation issues with my guitars, and I found this to be a much bigger problem when using an inexpensive "quick" capo. I've tried G7th before, my first purchase being the "Nashville" model, which is basically little more than a typical "quick" capo with G7th's styling and color scheme. Looked cool, but did nothing to improve my sound. As I learned more about the advantages of an adjustable capo, I decided to give the Newport a try. I'm glad that I did. To be fair, this capo isn't a miracle worker. It isn't quite as convenient to remove and replace as a "quick change" capo, and if you don't take time to adjust it for your guitar, it's likely going to have the same downsides as a non-adjustable capo. But it's easy to use right - after some experimenting, I've gotten it adjusted to apply just the right amount of pressure (tip: start with it wide open, and adjust the tension incrementally until the strings ring clear), and the sound is perfectly resonate. No damping, no detuning. It stays out of the way, does it's job, and it's pretty darn easy to move around or remove, while still retaining it's tension. Not much else to say - I haven't tried too many capos above $25, so I'm not certain I can say this is "the best", but it's a great bit of kit, and I highly recommend it.

I had been using any capo I had laying, but then I was introduced to G7th Newport. Let me tell you, it is invaluable to have a capo in my possession now that doesn't detune any of my strings when I put it on the neck. It's great buy if you use capos on any kind of regular basis, and especially if you play in front of live audiences. Makes for quick changes.
