Fender

collapse expand iconDescription

Bringing Fender's most distinctive tone to life, the Fender Player Stratocaster HSS Plus Top is a special-edition Strat featuring an alder body with a comfortable modern C-shaped maple neck and 22 medium-jumbo frets on a 9.5"-radius maple fingerboard for effortless playability.

Legendary Fender Pickups Deliver Classic Stratocaster Sound

Equipped with a single-coil Stratocaster neck pickup, middle pickup and an overwound Alnico II humbucker bridge pickup, this limited-edition Player Strat HSS has a sound all its own. The single-coil pickups produce the bell-like tone that made the Strat famous, while the humbucker adds grit and girth for heavier rock tones.

Synchronized Tremolo Provides Expressive Pitch Bending

A Fender standard cast/sealed synchronized tremolo bridge with bent steel saddle allows for deep pitch bending and smooth note transitions. Keeping the guitar in tune is a set of Fender standard cast/sealed tuning machines.

Modern C-Shaped Neck Profile Offers Comfortable Playability

This Player Strat HSS features a modern C-shaped neck profile—comfortably rounded along the fingerboard edges with a slightly flatter fingerboard radius for smooth playability across all 22 frets. A synthetic bone nut, width of 1.650", rounds out the neck construction.

Lifetime Guitar

I bought this guitar online during the Memorial Day sale so I paid ~$230 less than full price; However, if I were able to try it out in person, I still probably would have walked out with it at MSRP. The blue top with cream hardware is beautiful and it came exactly as shown in the pictures. My ONLY gripe is the same one I have with all stratocasters: the saddle set screws are too tall and can dig into your hand when palm muting. It's a very inexpensive fix, so I'm not taking off any stars for it, but it should have been taken care of at the factory. The pickups are mid-tier, but so is the Player line of guitars. I'm able to get every tone I need out of it, so I'm not bothered at all, but it's all up to your taste. I'd say with the HSS configuration, you can play just about any genre without a hitch. Single coil hum is minimal and most people probably wouldn't be bothered enough to apply shielding or install noiseless pickups. The frets came polished, so bends are smooth. The fret ends aren't exhibiting any signs of sprouting, but they could use a little bit more love. Still, it's more than I expected. The fingerboard is glossy and the finish on mine is flawless. A quick wipe with a microfiber cloth and it's good as new. The neck has a satin finish and does not become gummy even after playing for extended periods. The tuners hold pitch well even with heavy use of the two point tremolo, though I plan to deck it for even better stability. The weight is very manageable; it feels like a quality instrument. Not light nor heavy and no neck dive to speak of. Looking at other reviews, don't take mine as a prime example of what you may receive. That's the risk of ordering online, but sometimes there's no way around it since this guitar was not in stock anywhere close to me. I've had good luck with Guitar Center in replacing and returning instruments that didn't meet expectations and I'm very picky. I heavily considered the Sire S7 with all of its upgrades over your average Fender Strat, but with how modular Strats are and how ubiquitous parts are, I ultimately found more value in this instrument. I suspect this will be my main guitar for the foreseeable future.

Looks Beautiful, But Uneven Quality; Select One in Person

Adding to my review from January. I've taken delivery on 4 units in Sienna Sunburst. I've returned 3 and will probably return the fourth. Bottom line: if you can pick-out one in person, you might find a real winner. Positives: the neck felt very nice on all four units -- gloss top with a smooth satin back. And the guitar looks great. The flame maple Plus Top is beautiful. And the parchment pick guard, aged white pick-up covers/knobs, and zebra humbucker complement it perfectly. Although, take note: the colors in the stock photos (intense orange burst ringed in deep red) are not accurate. The burst is a pale, natural maple, ringed in standard Fender sienna. Very pretty, but it's not the American Ultra's Plasma Red Burst. However, the quality control and workmanship is all over the map. The first had cracks or gaps in the fingerboard finish, adjacent to four or five frets. Honestly, I didn't notice them until I'd had the guitar for a month because I otherwise liked it. The cracks didn't affect playability, but they didn't reflect well on workmanship. Once I saw them, I couldn't un-see them, so I returned that unit. The fourth one had two high frets (#2 and #11), resulting in buzz. The second and third one had finish issues. (And both were also clearly floor models or returns.) For instance, the flame maple veneer on the upper bout of one had been oddly bookmatched, as if the pieces of veneer weren't long enough to span the entire length of the upper bout. Returned both of those. Finally, the pick-ups have been very uneven across the four. The first one sounded solid; appropriately Strat-y with a passable humbucker. Unfortunately, it also had a grounding or shielding issue resulting in a buzz (beyond the 60-cycle hum). The second one sounded similar. The third one, notably, sounded spectacular; extremely clear and chime-y. The fourth, however, has remarkably muddy, muted pick-ups that sound almost like cheap ceramic pick-ups. I'll likely return it too.

I like the neck pickup for clean tone. Bridge pickup is decent for rock. Output just doesn't seem powerful enough (thin?) Pickups don't seem balanced. Strings it came with are extremely worn, so it's hard to get a good sense of the tone without new strings and a setup. Back of Neck is smooth. Guitar is light. Color and finish are nice. Whammy bar is nice to have. Didn't come with case. I'm not used to having knobs so close to the bridge. I may return it for something used with better value, tone and playability. GOOD GUITAR, but didn't quite 'wow' me, so it might not end up being my first Strat.

  • Absolutely beautiful playing and beautiful to look at

Immediately out of the box everything was set up pretty well. No hot frets, just needed to be tuned up and plays like a champion. Absolutely beautiful tradition to the collection. I put it up against 3 other strats a Washburn as well as a Gibson Les Paul and the sound out of this thing topped them all.

Guitar is for personal entertainment. Have and still own other Fenders. This Strat is exceptional however. Set up was perfect, easy to play and sounds great. Wouldn't trade it for anything else.

Went to our favorite Guitar Center to grab a strap and a t-shirt and this wonderful Stratocaster caught our daughter's eye and followed us home. Plays great and sounds great after a basic setup. We are very happy with it and the 10% off was enough to offset a really nice case. People who judge guitars out of the box without a proper setup are really doing themselves, their guitar, and Guitar Center a disservice. Setup is very personal and a cost for which you should budget with any new guitar purchase. You'll thank me and your tech, trust me.

All guitars vary depending on the density of the wood. Manufacturers usually only spec size and type of wood. Guitars are generally between 6 and 12 lbs. They can be more. The only way to know the weight of an individual instrument is to weigh it. I'm sorry but I don't have one to weigh. This will be approximately 7.5 – 8.5 lbs

Excellent - Fender® USA 250L Nickel Plated Steel (.009-.042 Gauges), PN 0730250403. I never recommend getting new strings right away. That's a sales pitch.
