Fender '68 Custom Twin Reverb

Description
The Fender '68 Custom Twin Reverb 85W 2x12 tube guitar combo amp pays tribute to the iconic late-'60s "silverface" Twin Reverb while enhancing its tone and performance. Fender has hand-wired the tube sockets and added custom-made Schumacher transformers—just like the originals. They've also reduced the negative feedback for greater touch sensitivity and harmonic richness. The '68 Custom Twin Reverb's dual 12" Celestion G12V-70 speakers deliver a distinctively punchy, rock-and-roll flavor. This amp is ideal for players seeking a versatile backline amp with a vintage vibe and modern enhancements.
Enhanced Twin Reverb Tone
The '68 Custom Twin Reverb provides 85W of power through two 12" Celestion G12V-70 speakers for full, articulate tone. Fender has modified the "custom" channel to feature a '50s tweed Bassman tone circuit for more low mids and faster breakup. The reduced negative feedback also allows the amp to break up sooner when overdriven. Whether clean or pushed, this amp delivers a dynamic range of classic Fender tones with richer harmonics.
Vintage-Inspired Look with Modern Performance
The '68 Custom Twin Reverb has the iconic silverface aesthetic of late-'60s Fender amps but with components optimized for today's players. In addition to the hand-wired tube sockets and custom transformers, Fender has given both channels reverb and tremolo controls for enhanced versatility. The shared tremolo on both channels can also be blended for more tonal options using an A/B/Y box. These features, combined with the quicker breakup and touch sensitivity, make this a thoroughly modern amp with vintage-inspired style.
Versatility for Stage and Studio
With a dynamic range of tones, reverb, tremolo, and an effects loop, the '68 Custom Twin Reverb is an incredibly versatile amp. Its 85 watts of power allows for full, clean headroom at gigging volumes. The amp also works well in the studio, where engineers can take full advantage of its harmonic richness and sensitivity. Whether on stage or recording, the '68 Custom Twin Reverb lets guitarists craft their signature sound.

Awesome amp just as adverstised
I've only owned it for about two weeks now, but this amp is everything I wanted and expected, given Fender's long-standing reputation and my equally long history with their products. The look and feel is great, albeit a little on the heavy side, so it's not as portable as I would like. But, I knew that going in, so I plan to add heavy-duty casters (hint: this amp should come with wheels). Also, the 60-cycle hum is a bit irritating, but I am taking measures to remedy that. UPS driver did a particularly poor job of delivering this heavy amp to the door of my house: he just dragged it by the top box flap, thereby opening it (too lazy to use his hand truck). Anyway, back to the amp itself. I love the separate channels as they accomodate all my instruments. Although heavy, very powerful and a bit pricey, I would definitely recommend it to all those who can handle it.

Too Noisy
I bought this amp and was greatly disappointed. Although the tone is awesome, the amp delivers a very noticeable hiss even with nothing plugged in and the volume at 0. This makes it automatically unsuitable for playing delicate clean parts and for professional recording. Apparently this is a result of the modified negative bias. You would think that a company like Fender would have their game together and be able to produce a $1200+ amplifier without this kind of issues. I do not recommend this amp.

It has a lot of power. Very clean sound. It's what I expected from a Fender Twin Reverb. Heavy in weight. If you're looking for the Vintage Fender sound this is it. If you're looking for lightweight and portable this is probably not the amp for you. I love it.

Great for shows. Cannot use for studio recordings. Brand new amp and it hums on level 1, especially when you use the reverb.
Yes, no question

My second Twin. The Custom Twin is absolutely awesome. Crystal clear, ridiculous power, channels are well thought out. The Fender team has taken the best aspects and features of all the Twins, and put them in the custom. Love it!
A Real Work Horse Amp

This isn't a toy, this is a real working mans amp. I've had this amp for quite sometime now and I cannot say enough to compliment its tone, versatility, and even simplicity. I've used many amps, bought or given to me, and this one by far beats them all. I've been playing guitar a while now and have played in many states at many events for the time I hae been playing. I have searched for years for an amp to give me that old, vintage tone, that I know and love so well. This amp paired with my D'Angelico (Premier Series DC) modeled after a Gibson ES-335 with some modifications gives me that tone. I have had absolutely no trouble out of this amp, its been a real work horse for me and I couldn't be happier with any amp at any price point. Yes. as most people with this amp complain about, it is very heavy to move around a lot, but to me it is definitly worth it. Usually there is an issue of some kind I include in my reviews, but none are included in this review as I have had none with this amp or the service by means of which I got this amp. If your going to play music, as I say, you should do it right and not with junky gear. This amp is by no means junky and your doing it right with this amp. If you have the money and are looking for a real amp, this amp will serve its purpose. Is this amp for everybody? No. of course not, and I'm not saying that you shouldn't keep looking around for something different, but my experiences with this amp are wondeful and I wouldn't trade it for any other. I hope this review may help you into finding the perfect amp for you, for me however, I have alreafy found mine.

Hi, Would it be possible to see pictures of how blemished it is? Thanks.
Unfortunately additional pictures are unavailable. Blemishes are slight and do not affect the tone or play ability of the instrument.submitted6 years ago
