Electro-Harmonix

collapse expand iconDescription

The Electro-Harmonix 720 Stereo Looper is a feature-packed looping pedal that puts a world of sonic potential at your feet. This stereo looper offers 12 minutes of pristine, uncompressed 24-bit audio capture across 10 loops for crafting complex soundscapes. With unlimited overdubbing, you can build layer upon layer and footswitchable undo and redo functions ensure only your best takes make it to the audience. The 720 Stereo Looper also provides reverse and half-speed effects at the press of a button for spinning your loops into uncharted territory.

Craft Intricate Compositions With Ease

The 720 Stereo Looper pedal provides an intuitive interface for looping two instruments at once, opening up a wider tonal palette. You'll have 10 loops at your disposal, each offering over a minute of recording time to capture full musical passages and phrases. With the Loop knob, you can cycle through loops with ease and overdub new parts at will. The 720's dual footswitches also provide hands-free control over recording, playback and effects.

New Inspiration at Your Feet

In addition to clean loop playback, the 720 Stereo Looper pedal offers reverse and half-speed effects to transform your loops in real time. Engaging reverse playback sends your loop spiraling backward, while half-speed cuts the tempo in half for a drastic change in mood and texture. These effects inspire new ideas and open doors to uncharted sonic territory, allowing you to manipulate your loops on the fly.

High-Fidelity Capture and Recall

At the heart of the 720 Stereo Looper is a high-performance audio engine that records and plays back your loops in uncompressed 24-bit audio with a 44.1kHz sample rate. This pristine digital conversion provides stunning clarity and an expansive frequency range to capture every nuance. The 720 also offers stereo I/O for looping two instruments at once or incorporating stereo effects pedals.

Complete Control at Your Feet

In addition to the 720's dual footswitches and Loop knob, a 1/4" control out allows you to connect an optional 3-button foot controller for hands-free operation. With a foot controller, you can easily navigate loops, trigger effects and undo mistakes without missing a beat. This level of control makes the 720 Stereo Looper ideal for practice, composition and performance.

  • Very noisy and glitchy pedal. EHX doesn't care.

Noisiest pedal I've ever used. First time I plugged it in I could immediately hear an extremely audible amount of phasing white noise coming out of my usually very quiet amplifier. I got a replacement. This second pedal made the same exact amount of noise as the first one. Besides the noise, when you're actually jamming to a loop you start to notice all these weird digital artifacts which ruin your tone. How am I supposed to play shows and record with this pedal when it sounds terrible? Contact EHX engineers and they will tell you this is all normal and they won't do a thing about it (Who in their right mind at Electro-Harmonix thinks it's OK to ruin your signal chain's sound quality?). So you're stuck with the inconvenience of returning the pedal. Last Electro-Harmonix product I will ever buy as I've had issues with their other stuff, and will turn everybody I know off their low quality garbage.

  • Noticeable (annoying) gap between loop playback

For the unit I received, I would only hear playback if the volume level was turned up to around 75% or higher on the unit; less than that, nothing...even with any of the amps or speakers I'd plug this into, turned up. I've tried recording it at different levels but still the same result with needing to crank it up for playback. But this may have been a defect on this unit. As for recording, you must be wary of the number of minutes/seconds available to record, because you only have 12 mins and it is divided among the number of banks (out of 10) that you're going to use (e.g. if you record a 2min loop in one bank, you will have 10mins left to share among the rest of the 9 free banks; and then if you record, say a 5min loop on another bank, you'll have 5mins left for the remaining 8 banks). Overdubbing on any one bank is unlimited though and does not use any additional memory. You can also undo/redo the last overdub if you didn't like it. Now it's a bit tricky getting the timing of your "stomp" precise to where it would playback seamlessly. There is a noticeable gap between the end and beginning of the loop during playback (apparently a common complaint/issue from other online sources). The switch is pretty high and that may contribute to its difficulty of getting a seamless loop. After several attempts, you can easily go from being excited to get home and practice on a loop to being demotivated and annoyed. Guitar Center is awesome with their return policy, and I had no trouble returning the unit. Well, I went ahead and got a Jam Man solo XT instead which has more bang for the buck because of features like 10mins of loop time PER bank (it has, i think, 99 banks available), expandable memory with a microSD, can connect to computer via USB. It has NO GAP between the loops due to the lower profile switch/pedal so no loss in motivation at all, you just wanna keep on playing! I also wanna mention that the XT was $10 cheaper at the time of this review. Never looked back :)

  • Seamless looping nearly impossible

Unfortunately, there is a bit of a stagger between loops where the audio drops out. Read forums and you'll find it's extremely difficult to record a seamless loop. The features are great but the execution failed.

That's more a matter of opinion. They're both good pedals
