EVH Wolfgang WG Standard Electric Guitar Bomber Black

Description
The EVH Wolfgang WG Standard electric guitar boasts the same style and massive sound that Eddie Van Halen created, at a price that the everyday musician can afford. Offering many of the blazing features as its pricier brethren, the Wolfgang WG Standard has a basswood body with special "comfort-cut" forearm contour for maximum playing ease. The WG Standard’s bolt-on baked maple neck with graphite reinforcement rods hold strong against the ravages of temperature and humidity, while a conveniently located spoke wheel at the base of the neck makes for quick and painless truss rod adjustments.
Designed for comfortable playability and speed, the Wolfgang WG Standard also features an oiled finish on the back of the neck and a 12–16" compound radius baked 22-fret maple fingerboard with rolled edges and black dot inlays.
Dual EVH Wolfgang humbucking pickups mounted directly to the body increase vibration transfer, which results in sustain for days on end. Two black speed control knobs have been dialed in to Van Halen’s exacting specifications—the smooth-feeling 500k pots make it easy to find a unique sound while retaining the crisp high-end sparkle of the Wolfgang pickups. The EVH-branded Floyd Rose Special bridge and R2 locking nut consistently keep the guitar in tune through the deepest whammy dives and horse whinnies.
The EVH Wolfgang WG Standard has been tested live on stage, where it counts. It's decked out for playing performance and comfort.

this EVH Wolfgang Standard Sets the Standard
Just bought this guitar and could not be more satisfied. To put my review in context: been playing 30 years, have had over 50 guitars and currently hold onto about 20- most are the high end USA models with "bells and whistles." I just read the book "Eruption" written by guitar magazine journalists and loved it- described Ed's constant tinkering with his guitars and search for best tones. Half way through I knew I wanted to go get an EVH model to add to my guitars (played a few over the years and they were all great, but very expensive Music Man Axis / Peavey), and wanted to wait until I finished the book to narrow down my search and go try out a new one to buy. Glad I did- toward the end of the book he explained how this model guitar is exactly what he wants to play right off the shelf as an entry level model a great gift to guitarists wanting an affordable guitar that isnt junk. I bought it and after about an hour playing with it as my guitar tuned down to Eb half a step- it is now my #1 guitar for that tuning (also for context my #1 for standard tuning is a Shur super strat which costs like 6x this Wolfgang). In response to some other lower reviews- yes, this is not equipped with a Floyd Rose floating bridge, just as Ed played- he sites the reason as Pros= better tone and you can rest your hand a little on the bridge without playing out of tune. Yes, the cons include not being able to pull up a note to really high pitch with the bar. right off the shelf it was set up with IMHO the best gauge string for his type of playing and a guitar tuned down half a step- 09-46 gauge. The 6 page manual with the guitar was really cool- a note from Ed was in it about how he wants folks to play the guitar and make it their own with literally their playing, grit and grease from hand oil actually being the wood finishing on the unfinished wood. The neck and fretboard are very sturdy, with jumbo frets and the latest technology in manufacturing to ensure each note can be fretted and in remain in tune / bend smoothly. All electronics are top notch- great humbucker pickups picked by Ed after a trial of about 100 different different pickups during the design phase. Tuners and Floyd Rose Special bridge were standard- I may upgrade them in a few months after breaking in the guitar. This is the only guitar review I have ever done- just trying to get some good karma I guess from this treasure I found and pass on the scoop on this guitar to others. Hope this helps- buy this! The perfect guitar to make yours just as it is, or customize/tinker around with it since it is affordable and there is much less stress of messing something up. IMHO if this guitar gets its due in the upcoming years it is our generation's Les Paul.

Out of the box, two problems. The set up was absolutely atrocious. Unplayable bad. These guitars are not designed to have a floating Floyd and somehow the bridge was floating. And secondly, the pickup switch was faulty. No amount of contact cleaner would bring the switch around. I was able to rough in a basic set up and replaced the toggle switch. Another issue was everything, and I mean everything, was loose. From screws to nuts to strap buttons. Fender/EVH obviously has some QC issues that they need to sort out as this guitar should have never left the factory in this state. I should have returned it, but after receiving the first one damaged and now a second guitar in such a state, it beat me to submission and just decided to address the issues myself. Now the good. The neck is absolutely amazing on this guitar. Hands down the easiest to play instrument I have ever owned. Pickups literally scream. Styling is obviously subjective, but I love it as well as the flat black finish, as it's a commonly known fact that black guitars just sound better. For the price and to have Van Halen's name attached, the quality control issues are just not acceptable. I couldn't recommend this to a new player or someone who does not want to tinker. Do better, Fender/EVH.

This guitar checks all the boxes. I have a Stratocaster and needed something with double humbuckers to play more rock metal music. Les Paul's and Gibson sg's were out of the budget. I tried guitars from schecter, Jackson, and PRS but kept coming back to the Wolfgang. The neck is buttery smooth and the body is extremely comfortable. The matte finish feels great on my arm while strumming or playing for technical music. The tone is very thick and loud but can give off more of a strat blues tone with the right amp. I'd never used the Floyd Rose tremolo system before and found it a little aggravating. After using the evh for a few weeks it was easier to tune and play. The bridge and tremolo feel great to play and over all an amazing guitar for the price. The evh Wolfgang standard is the cheaper or half-price version of the special. I have played the special ans well but didn't like it as much. Both have very similar tones and necks which are almost undistinguishable. The problem is the shape of the body. On the special, it compares to something like a Les Paul with a very thick blocky feel. The standard has a stomach cut and body cut and so much more comfortable to hold and play. Other than the body, I'm pretty sure the pickups and electronics are the same. After trying all the guitars from the 600-100 price point, I can confidently say this is the best. If you looking for a guitar in this price range, I strongly recommend the evh Wolfgang standard.

It didn't take long to appreciate the quality of this instrument. I added the D-Tuna, It's a must. It's not included... Straight neck, low action, sounds great, classic top mounted Floyd like the Frankenstrat, and it feels good and balanced. I really like the baked maple! 9/10

So I have been playing schecter and fender and was considering a Gibson. The gibs are just too fat in the neck. Me and my average hands have been working with thin c shape ok but I have had the feeling there must be something better. Don't get me wrong, those work fine. Actually went in to get a Jackson, but saw this one and had to test it out. It's a short scale thin, light and easy to play guitar. Have had it for a couple of weeks and I can honestly say it's my favorite ever. Super expressive, like crazy. It drives and overdrives with little effort. I can reach and move around the fret board easily making me sound better than I am. Saying that I'm impressed is an understatement. I don't know how anyone can do better, and the price is very reasonable. I can't imagine how the "upgraded" models play.... Guess I might have to try one.
