  • Great Ride, with only one real downside

I bought a 20" Bell Ride a couple of months ago, and I'm extremely happy with it. As other reviewers have said, the ride really holds it's 'character' no matter how hard or fast you play it. The ping really cuts through the mix, both live and in the studio (I've recorded about 10 songs with my Paiste, and it really delivers in the studio). The bell is easily the best part of the ride, the tone and power of the bell its really amazing. I've actually started to mix more bell work into my playing, just so I can use the bell more often! As great of a cymbal the reflector bell ride is, it has one downside. I like to crash-ride (or 'wash-ride' if you're a Sabian nut) on my crash a lot, and the ride's crash is too dark and full for my tastes. I like a little more decay and brightness when I'm crash-riding, but hey, that's what a secondary ride is for. The Signature Reflector Bell Ride rocks, and I recommend it to anyone looking for a really powerful ride.

I can't say enough great things about the 22" Reflector Ride. On top of being a beautiful looking cymbal, it has a warm, full sound with a large raised bell. This is a direct recreation of Nicko McBrain's Ride he uses in the studio and on stage and will give you that distinctive ride ping that is the hallmark of one of the greatest drummers alive. At 22" and almost 10 pounds of metal, this is a serious cymbal. I've gotten many compliments on this ride so far and couldn't be happier with the look and sound.

Listening on Paiste's site was the only preview I had of this cymbal. I knew when I ordered it, this ride would be great, but I was blown away at what this cymbal can do when I got it. You can play soft, meduim, loud and the cymbal maintains its crisp, distinct ping over a harmonic wash. Even better, the wash doesn't get too overbearing when played loud, it just sort of holds its character. Expensive? Yes, but for a drummer looking for the best, you won't regret this one. This ride is truly an amazing piece of work. Buy it and rock on!
