Korg Minilogue Polyphonic Analog Synthesizer

KORG

collapse expand iconDescription

The Korg minilogue Polyphonic Analog Synthesizer is a revolutionary new instrument fusing classic analog tone with cutting edge features. This polyphonic analog synthesizer offers four voice analog sound with 37 full size keys, designed for live performance and studio use. The minilogue's analog signal path features two VCOs, a VCF, and a VCA to provide a classic analog sound with warmth and character. The minilogue combines vintage appeal with modern connectivity, including MIDI, USB and CV/Gate inputs and outputs for synchronizing with drum machines and sequencers.

Analog Synthesis Engine Generates Vintage Sound

The heart of the minilogue is its powerful analog synthesis engine, providing four voices of polyphony to shape using classic analog components. Two voltage-controlled oscillators offer sawtooth, triangle, and square waveforms to produce a range of tones from warm and rounded to harsh and metallic. A voltage-controlled filter shapes the overall timbre, allowing you to boost or cut low, mid and high frequencies. Use the envelope generator and LFO to dynamically modulate filter cutoff, oscillator pitch, and amplifier level. The result is an authentic analog sound ideal for synthwave, electronica, ambient and experimental music.

Versatile Connectivity Integrates With Your Setup

Despite its analog design, the minilogue offers extensive connectivity for integration into modern music production environments. MIDI in and out ports allow connection to external keyboards, sequencers, and drum machines. A USB MIDI port provides a simple connection to your DAW. CV/Gate in and out ports enable control of the minilogue from analog sequencers and synths. An audio input lets you process external audio sources through the minilogue's filter and effects. With this level of connectivity, the minilogue is a perfect analog hub for any electronic music studio.

Performance-Ready Design, Intuitive Interface

The minilogue's 37-key keyboard, with velocity sensitivity and aftertouch, provides an ideal performance interface with full-size keys. An easy-to-use front panel offers dedicated controls for each analog parameter, as well as additional LFO, arpeggiator, delay, and reverb effects. The five-pin MIDI output enables connection of the minilogue to larger MIDI keyboards. Sturdy metal construction, battery power capability, and a gig bag for transportation make the minilogue ideal for live performance, whether on stage or on the go.

The Korg Minilogue is a SUPER fun & intuitive analog synth for everyone from beginners to seasoned synthesits. I've been programming synths for 20 years and this was just as fun as the first synth I ever used. Its analog sound is wonderful and thick. Almost everything has a knob or switch for control and, for the patches I was making, I never went into the menus for further editing beyond naming patches and setting sequencer settings. The shape control of the oscillators gives a lot of variation to your standard waveforms and the sync/ring-mod, cross modulation, & pitch envelope of oscillator two really open up the sonic possibilities. I very much enjoy the dedicated switch for velocity modulation of the filter cutoff and I like that there are only two modulation depths beyond none. My favorite feature of the Minilogue is the envelope modulation of either the rate or the intensity of the LFO. This really gives a sense of motion to what is already a sense of motion from the LFO. My only complaint is that the LFO doesn't go fast enough for analog-FM style tones. It's not nearly as fast as the LFO on the Monologue but that's more of an observation that a full drawback. I really enjoyed the different voice modes of this synth, really finding mono, which introduces a variable level sub, and chord, which creates various fixed chords, to be the most useful beyond the standard poly mode. This is by far the best poly synth I have ever found for someone who is interested in learning analog synthesis. The knobs and switches along with the actual layout of them makes programming make sense and a joy to use. The Minilogue does have mini-keys but the mini keys Korg has been using for their new synths are really great. Much better than the MicroKORG. With the Minilogue, Korg really show us that there will always be room for one more analog synth.

Checked it out on line and loved it so I didn't open the box before I left the store and there wasn't one on display. I opened the box and the KEYS ARE TOO SMALL. Feels like I'm playing a toy. I'm a real piano player who specializes in jazz crossover. What was your thinking? Was going to exchange for the XD $729 model but those keys are too small as well. Will be using a controller. However, it does sound great!

  • Great recording tool, great loops and sounds...

... And I'm still just scratching the surface. I hope to learn more about programming/changing the loops and any associated software that'll help me do that graphically along with the knobs

Always wanted a high tech semi affordable Senth and committed to getting this one. Immediately intimidated on where to and how to start. Went looking at videos that helped a lot with the basics and all that can be done with this model. Overall there are endless ways to tweek the pre load sounds and getting used to the whole get up. I'd say I will definitely keep this and make it work.

  • Perfect synth for beginners and masters!

Got this as my first analog poly synth and it's amazing! The oscilloscope is really nice because you can see how each setting manipulates the wave. It comes with pretty simple instructions, but Korg's website has a download of the owners manual (40+ pages) that goes into detail how to use everything and is SUPER helpful to read through. It definitely takes a lot of playing around to learn to change the sounds to what you want, but that's half of the fun. Fat bass, good ring and the thing sounds like its alive!! I did not have any issues with the envelopes "clicking" after watching a few demo videos on youtube. I have not done any software update on it yet. I got it with a Gator GK 2110 pedal board bag that fits this Korg like a GLOVE. My only complaint is the power cable is painfully short. Like only about 4 feet long, so if you don't have an extension cord or power conditioner you have to stay pretty close to a wall.
