Gibson 2019 Hummingbird Acoustic

Gibson

collapse expand iconDescription

Of Gibson's many famous designs, the Hummingbird Standard may be one of the most recognizable. The first square shoulder dreadnought Gibson ever produced, it has been turning heads since 1960. It's known not only for a wide-ranging sound that can adapt to any style, but also for its uniquely shaped pickguard, which is usually adorned with a hummingbird and flower theme, as on this 2019 Hummingbird Standard acoustic/electric guitar.

Hummingbird Standard Tonewoods and Bracing

The 2019 Hummingbird Standard acoustic/electric features the reliable combination of a mahogany body with Sitka spruce top and adds a gorgeous Vintage Cherry Sunburst gloss finish. Sitka spruce is the most popular top wood for steel-string acoustic guitars, beloved for both its projection qualities and broad dynamic range. Just as popular, mahogany is desired for its warm timbre, resonance, sustain, and extra boost on the low end. All of this, combined with traditional hand-scalloped X bracing, makes it a solid choice for fingerpicking leads or chord strumming accompaniment.

'50s Rounded Profile Neck

The 2019 Hummingbird Standard has a mahogany neck with a '50s rounded profile. This means it's slightly fatter than more modern neck designs, making it a more comfortable feel for traditionalists. It's also outfitted with a rosewood fingerboard appointed with traditional mother-of-pearl parallelograms. The TUSQ nut and saddle ensures excellent vibration transfer, while nickel Grover Rotomatic tuning machines will help you keep it in tune longer.

Making it a great choice for gigging performers or singer-songwriters ready to hit the stage, Gibson equipped the 2019 Hummingbird Standard acoustic/electric with an L.R. Baggs VTC soundhole-mounted pickup. With worry-free performance, it gives you discrete, easy-to-use volume and tone controls to hone in your sound.

  • A unique sound for a unique guitar

I absolutely love this guitar and it has the Gibson sound in spades. I've played a j45, own a D18 and the hummingbird is my favorite due to its unique sound. Its sound is full and warm but a sweetness with the Indian rose fretboard which is part of what creates its uniqueness from other Mohagany guitars. Also, for me, the playability is better than the J45 and D18. Worth the money to own this piece of musical history.

  • Ir you want the Gibson vibe and sound, this is it.

The Gibson Std. Hummingbird, vintage sunburst is a beautiful instrument in playability, looks and tone. The sound palette is balanced across the board, with warmth in the overall tone without sacrificing the highs. You won't be able to put this guitar down! Get it properly setup after purchase and you'll be in 'Guitar Heaven'! This model has come through many changes(good and bad) since it's inception over 60 years ago...but now, Gibson really got it right with this current model. You will not be disappointed.

I've played guitar since I was 12 (I'm middle aged now.) This is the best guitar I've ever played. Especially for someone who sings while playing. The low end thump is incredible and gives a rhythm to carry you through the song. The mids manage to support and elevate the vocals rather than competing with them. And the high end, particularly the harmonics, are shimmering and dreamlike. This is a guitar that yields to your voice and the lyrics of the song. Its a warm, syrupy, rhythmic, dark and mellow guitar. And it plays so well I can't put the thing down. I've never been in love with a guitar the way I am with this Hummingbird. Many people say it's all about the pick guard or its looks. It is a beautiful looking guitar, but it actually sounds a hundred times more beautiful.

The more you play her, the better she plays, sounds, feels! It's like she's a living entity! It's meant to be played!!! It's ALOT of money, I know, but don't be afraid to take her out of the case and jam! That's what she's made to do!

  • A classic that deserves its excellent reputation.

Purchased new from stock at local Guitar Center. This is one of the classic acoustic guitars of all time but there is more. I play it unamped a lot but I also have a Rivera Amplification Sedona Lite which is an electric/acoustic amp, arguably one of the best. The Hummingbird sounds fabulous thru the acoustic channel on this amps.

  • Worth the money!

Unfortunately, we have no way of knowing what the blemish is. However, it would only be a minor cosmetic flaw and would not affect the guitars play ability.

How does the sound of the Gibson Hummingbird compare to the Epiphone Hummingbird?

The sound is a bit fuller, but the big difference happens over time. The Gibson's wood will age and the sound will fill out and get warmer.
