Open Box Fender Flea Signature Road Worn Jazz Bass Level 2 Shell Pink 197881275938

Description
The Flea Signature Roadworn Jazz Bass is a meticulous recreation of Flea's own 1961 Jazz Bass that provided the funky backbone of Red Hot Chili Peppers classics like "Under the Bridge" and "Californication." Flea received the vintage Shell Pink bass as a gift from a fan and Fender has painstakingly recreated every worn detail, from the faded nitrocellulose lacquer finish to the engraved Flea logo neck plate. The result is a bass that looks, plays and sounds like an old friend.
Unique Shell Pink Finish Ages Gracefully
The Shell Pink finish is one of Fender's rarest custom colors, used only briefly in the early 1960s and Flea's bass is likely the only example still in existence. Fender has recreated the exact shade of faded pink, then distressed it further with a Road Worn nitrocellulose lacquer finish for an authentically aged look. Underneath, an alder body and maple neck provide a resonant foundation for the vintage tone.
Vintage-Accurate Specs Channel Early Fender
From the 20-fret rosewood fingerboard to the threaded steel barrel bridge saddles, every detail of the Flea Signature Roadworn Jazz Bass is crafted to vintage-correct specifications. The thick C-shaped neck profile feels substantial in the hand, while the 7.25" fingerboard radius and 1.5" nut width provide an authentic playing feel.
Pure Vintage '64 Pickups Power a Modern Sound
The Flea Signature Roadworn Jazz Bass owes its tone to a pair of Pure Vintage '64 Jazz Bass pickups, hand-wound to replicate the sound of early 1960s Fender pickups. Clear lows, punchy mids and singing highs give this bass a voice that cuts through a mix with articulate clarity and harmonic richness. Volume and tone controls for each pickup, plus a master tone control, provide tonal versatility.
A Legendary Bassist's Stamp of Approval
Flea's innovative and melodic basslines redefined rock music and his 1961 Jazz Bass was instrumental in crafting his signature sound. Fender's painstaking recreation of this iconic instrument carries Flea's personal stamp of approval, right down to the engraved neck plate. For bassists seeking Flea's unmistakable tone and mojo, the Flea Signature Roadworn Jazz Bass delivers in spades.

Amazing quality MIM Roadworn Jazz Bass w/ great pots!

Overall, incredibly satisfied with this Flea Signature model Jazz Bass. Coming from a thru-string, American Jazz Bass, this model feels like it has equal levels of build quality, despite the obvious and intentional Roadworn condition. As you'll see in photos, plenty of Roadworn details abound, including wearing in the edges of the fretboard, and edges of the headstock. The real question for a serious buyer, who doesn't care about Flea (unlike us fans), is are you willing to pay a few hundred dollars more, for what is essentially the same quality bass, just to get Flea's name and a Shell Pink color, whereas the Olympic White version of this same bass is available for quite a bit cheaper. That being said, I love the Shell Pink color, the bass is fundamentally great quality, and as a fan of Flea, it's a great value. My favorite aspect of the bass is absolutely the dual stacked pots, you get independent volume and tone knobs, for the bridge and neck pickups each. The bass plays, and sounds, fantastic, and easily would hold its own on a blind taste test against American J basses in my opinion. This offers much more sonic versatility and control than the traditional 3 knob set up found on a standard J bass. The vintage, bridge thread stringing set up, as opposed to thru-body which you find on modern, more professional grade instruments, may seem like a deal breaker, but tonality doesnt not seem to be noticeably impacted, though sustain may be slightly reduced. After all, a real, 1961 J Bass would have the same. My particular bass arrived with a pretty wonky bridge set up out of the box, but nothing that wasnt easily solved with a quick adjustment. Overall, incredibly pleased with this bass! Reference - Music Major, professional level player

I love the tone of this bass, and it helps me to channel my "Inner Flea." The neck finish is smooth and worn in like a glove. The shell pink reminds me of a paint job on a classic 50s car. Mined played great right out of the box, and I didn't have to adjust the neck or saddles. It looks identical to the bass Flea record albums with also has a John Paul Jones vibe to it.
Very Satisfied

I played bass in high school (over 15 years ago) and wanted to get back into the instrument. I've always been a fan of Flea and his tone. This bass sounds and feels great. No complaints.
I would buy this again

I don't usually write reviews but I recently purchased this from a Guitar Center in Arizona and couldn't be happier. Sound is amazing, quality is amazing, feel of the instrument is mind blowing... Genuinely feels like a $4k bass. I have much more expensive basses that don't feel or sound half as good. Couldn't recommend it more.
