The Downtown Express Demo | Effects Pedals | Fender

Description
The Fender Downtown Express bass multi-effects pedal is a powerful all-in-one pedal that puts an indispensable palette of bass effects at your feet. This multifunctional bass effects pedal shapes your tone with its simple interface and is ideal for bassists who want to expand their sonic possibilities on stage or in the studio. The pedal provides three essential bass effects—compression, overdrive and 3-band EQ, as well as a mute button, allowing you to craft your signature sound.
Dial-in the Perfect Overdrive
With the Downtown Express's Overdrive circuit, you can achieve tones from a slight overdrive to full-on distortion. Simply adjust the drive and tone knobs to tailor the amount of gain and balance it all out with the 3-band EQ using bass, mid and treble. The pedal's analog circuitry recreates the warm, tube like overdrive and distortion beloved by bassists.
Compression and 3-Band EQ
In addition to overdrive, the Downtown Express offers compression with a neat twist. Whether your additional effects pedal comes before or after the Downtown Express does not matter. Simply toggle the OD/comp switch to reorder your effects at will while modulating the tone with gain and threshold to design your perfect sound.
Simple Yet Versatile
Despite its advanced sound shaping capabilities, the Downtown Express is straightforward to operate. Each effect has dedicated knobs for tweaking key parameters, as well as a mute footswitch to instantly activate or bypass the effect. With its tough stompbox design, the Downtown Express is built to handle the demands of any gig while providing a wide range of professional bass tones.

I love this pedal! I just got it a couple weeks ago and it is probably the best bass pedal I've ever purchased! (especially for the price) The EQ is very versatile and usable, the compression sounds very smooth and clean, and the overdrive is INSANE! The amp simulation in the overdrive adds just the right amount of grit and natural sound that y bass needs to cut through a loud mix, but keeps the low frequencies required to fill in the bottom end. Plus, this this just looks SEXY! The only con with this pedal is the noise floor. When I kick it on, it seems to add a little more hiss/noise to the signal. Not a huge issue when you're playing with a band, especially if you have a good sound guy. As a live and studio mixing engineer myself, I can say that it isn't a big issue at all. I tend to roll off everything above 5k on the bass channel anyways, so it's barely noticeable at that point. All in all, it's an amazing pedal, at least for me. It looks great, sounds great, isn't too expensive, and is truly a top notch pedal.

I have used this on a few gigs and at band practice many of times. The Overdrive is comparable to the OCD (that I also have), the EQ is super wide range and the compressor is so adjustable, you can feel the note being squished if you push it just right. the down side... I wish the input and output were next to each other so it was easier to set up at gigs and practice. I have it on a Mono Lite board with a tuner and another small pedal and its kinda bothersome when i need to jump over the tuner out cable to get ready for a gig. besides that... 5/5.

The first pedal I received had an intermittent issue where 5 of the LED lights would go out. The issue came and went without apparent rhyme or reason. Guitar Center promptly facilitated the return and sent a replacement pedal immediately. I no longer had an issue with the LED's, but as I used the pedal, I realized the it took a significant amount of the basses signal out of the mix when none of the effects were being used. It does not have a true bypass. When I tried to use it at a live venue the sound guy, one of the best in town, could not get an acceptable signal from my pedal board until I removed the Downtown Express pedal.

Is the fender downtown bass pedal a "direct input" device? Ie I have a mixer that has 2 high Z (DI) inputs for guitars. The manual says I can use a DI device to plug into other channels that are not HiZ.
Yes. The 'not HiZ' is for an XLR which is what a DI is. Your guitar is HiZ at the output. The 1/4" input of your mixer is also HiZsubmitted2 years ago
