Epiphone

collapse expand iconDescription

The Epiphone SG Standard electric guitar delivers the sound and style that shaped rock music. Epiphone recreates the legendary 1960s classic with an all-mahogany body and neck for a warm, resonant tone. Powerful Alnico Classic PRO humbuckers provide the grit and growl that hard rock and heavy metal players crave. With its timeless "batwing" pickguard and fast-playing neck, the Epiphone SG Standard looks, feels and sounds like a classic should.

All-Mahogany Body and Neck

The Epiphone SG Standard's solid mahogany body and SlimTaper mahogany neck provide depth, richness and sustain. Mahogany's dense grain helps the guitar resonate fully, giving chords complex harmonics and lead lines singing sustain. The fast, comfortable neck profile makes it easy to blaze through solos at any position on the 22-fret Indian laurel fretboard.

High-Output Humbuckers

A pair of open-coil Alnico Classic PRO humbucking pickups deliver the output and overdrive rock players crave. The neck pickup provides a warm, rounded tone perfect for complex chords and emotive lead lines. The bridge pickup has tighter bass and crisp highs ideal for aggressive rhythm playing and searing solos. Individual volume and tone controls for each pickup allow you to shape your tone.

Rock-Solid Hardware

Grover Rotomatic tuners keep the Epiphone SG Standard in tune through the most extreme rock outs. A Tune-O-Matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece anchor the strings firmly for maximum resonance and sustain. High-quality electronic components from CTS and Switchcraft withstand the rigors of the road. A Graph Tech nut improves tuning stability for accurate intonation up and down the neck.

Iconic Style

The Epiphone SG Standard's double-cutaway mahogany body and distinctive "batwing" pickguard are instantly recognizable. Cream binding, trapezoid inlays and chrome hardware complete the vintage vibe. Available in a Cherry, Ebony or Alpine White finish, this guitar looks as killer as it sounds.

This was what I've been looking for!!

Like so many reviews on this guitar, I just purchased one of these beautiful Epiphone sg standards and I am so impressed with the quality of this guitar. I owned a 69 Gibson SG w/ maestro many moons ago, which I sold and I always missed this guitar, but not wanting to spend Gibson $$, I had to try one of these Inspired by Gibson models, I feel this has the same characteristics and mojo of their big brother, and definitely gig worthy. Having fun reminiscing having missed my old Sg, I actually like this one better! Be prepared to check set up if getting out of the box, but simple adjustments should be all it needs, Epiphone is so much better recently with naming models as they should be and not a alternate names for these iconic styles, which I have owned through the years and have two other Epiiphone's currently and I will tell you this axe rips! I got one from my local guitar center, I love the Kalamazoo headstock , as I'm from Mi. I don't know if I got a happy mistake but the veneer cap on my new heritage cherry SG is done so well you would have a hard time telling it is not one piece body!! Which I like better than the strong mahogany veneer I have always seen in these newer models . there are small imperfections in finish on mine and hard to pick out if you are really inspecting, but not a deal breaker, it is gorgeous. nice for a poly finish. Really gets you into a quality instrument for a working musician or any level of player! As they say " won't bark the bank" , but I think they are something to be proud of owning!! I got the standard, because I like the set up of the batwing, I was happy I see the 61 reissues with maestro tremolo, but after having a original Gibson with one from the era, I preferred the stop tail piece over Maestro, they are cool, and what originally caught my eye , but after trying them out, I still liked the standard!! Really loving adding this to my collection , plays awesome, try one!

It's a good starting guitar

I'm in a pop punk band and this guitar is a very good look and feel for that genre but I think there was something wrong with the bridge pickup so I switched it with the sh 8 invader so now it sounds better but there's now a weird problem there a weird buzz noise now and I know it's not the neck it's the bridge there's something wrong with it so that's the only bad part about this guitar

Played 3 Gibsons before I picked this one up on my way out the door. Blew me away, played like butter and was kicking through a Vox AC 10. Only one that made me part with my money. Ranks up there with my USA Gibsons and Fenders. Plays better than some. Kudos

  • Very good guitar at this price.

I saw a review of this guitar on youtube that said it was a very good value, it is. I have several guitars an$ this is the least expensive, you wouldn't know it playing it. It plays well , sounds great and looks like a much more costly instrument.

This SG is very versatile, being able to give a nice warm tone, a great hard rock tone, and a good clean tone. Bending just feels so natural on the neck, and speaking of the neck, it feels great, with no fret buzz or sharp frets. I can't speak much on the tuners as I just bought it.

  • I would buy this guitar again and again

I bought it for a Christmas present for my son. Guitar is beautiful in color and sounds great. I've already given it to him. He was beyond thrilled. Couldn't wipe that smile from his face.

It all comes down to personal preference, but what came on them were more than likely light gauge (9's) and Gibson brand.

    Open Reply - Thomas
All guitars vary depending on the density of the wood. Manufacturers usually only spec size and type of wood. Guitars are generally between 6 and 12 lbs. They can be more. The only way to know the weight of an individual instrument is to weigh it. This will be about 7 lbs
