EVH SA-126: A Semi-Hollow Revolution in Guitar Design

The EVH SA-126 Special semi-hollow electric guitar is a groundbreaking instrument that brings Wolfgang Van Halen’s vision to life. Combining the warmth and resonance of a semi-hollow body with the clarity and power of a solidbody, the EVH SA-126 delivers an unparalleled tonal range and playability. Whether you’re shredding leads, crafting intricate rhythms, or exploring new soundscapes, the EVH SA-126 has the versatility and performance to inspire your music. This EVH SA-126 review highlights its innovative design and exceptional features.

Semi-Hollow Construction With Serious Tone

At the core of the EVH SA-126 lies its chambered mahogany body with a basswood center block, chosen for its tonal balance and resonance. The semi-hollow design enhances the guitar’s warmth and produces rich, complex overtones, perfect for chords and melodic playing. Meanwhile, the basswood center block adds focus, low-end authority, and prevents feedback at high volumes, making it a reliable choice for both live performances and studio recordings.

A Neck Built for Speed and Precision

The EVH SA-126 is anchored by a fast, graphite-reinforced mahogany neck with a compound-radius ebony fingerboard. The 12"-16" radius transitions from a comfortable curve for smooth chording in the lower register to a flatter surface for effortless bends and intricate soloing higher up. Jumbo frets provide enhanced articulation and easy fretting, while the spoke wheel truss rod adjustment allows you to fine-tune the neck’s relief quickly and easily.

Custom Pickups by Tim Shaw for Signature Tones

Equipped with a pair of custom-designed EVH humbuckers by pickup guru Tim Shaw, the EVH SA-126 delivers an impressive range of tones. The bridge pickup offers everything from crystal-clear cleans to scorching leads with mids that cut through any mix. The neck pickup adds warmth and depth to your rhythm playing. Dedicated volume and tone controls for each pickup, along with 3-way switching, allow for precise tonal shaping and blending.

Rock-Solid Hardware for Tuning and Sustain

The EVH SA-126 is designed to stay in tune during the most demanding performances. Its Harmonica bridge enhances sustain by transferring string vibrations directly into the body, while the stopbar tailpiece keeps everything stable. Oversized strap buttons and keystone tuners ensure the guitar stays secure and in tune, even during intense playing sessions.

You are getting a lot of guitar for the price. Huge sounds and it plays great. I did get it set up to play lighter gauge strings as it comes with heavier gauge (which wasn't my thing). I highly recommend the SA-126

This guitar is amazing! It is made in Mexico. To me that makes no difference as USA guitars are not all good. It was setup very well out of the box. Great action and setup well at the nut and bridge. The frets are jumbo with a sharp crown not a wide crown that are more common! The pickups are out of this world. I have Slash pickups, Vai pickups, EVH pickups, Invaders on my other guitars and these wolfie pickups make those sound thin and weak. Unplugged, it is loud. The strings vibrate very well throughout the body. The sustain is very long. The top is gorgeous as I have the tobacco burst. Try it and see for yourself. The EVH team has done an amazing job on the SA126. I have zero complaints. Also, I use 10-46 strings and I can bend effortlessly up to 2 whole steps.

Take a bow, WVH & EVH/Fender! Killer feel, BA look and heavy tone all rolled into one awesome guitar. Light and large with rocking rhythm and a fast neck ready for shred lords. I haven't been able to wipe the smile off my face since opening that beautiful case and plugging in.

All guitars vary depending on the density of the wood. Manufacturers usually only spec size and type of wood. Guitars are generally between 6 and 12 lbs. They can be more. The only way to know the weight of an individual instrument is to weigh it. I'm sorry but I don't have one to weigh. This will be approximately 8 - 8.5 lbs.
