Boss GT-1000 Guitar Effects Processor

Description
The BOSS GT-1000, a premium multi-effects processor that ushers in a new era of performance. This top-of-the-line tone machine debuts BOSS's groundbreaking AIRD (Augmented Impulse Response Dynamics) technology, realized after decades of advanced research and supported by an ultrafast digital engine, 32-bit AD/DA, 32-bit processing, and 96kHz sampling rate throughout. The GT-1000 continues to evolve through ongoing firmware updates, expanding features like new amps and effects, bass support, and functionality enhancements requested by users.
AIRD Technology Provides Living, Breathing Tube Amplifier Sound
Based on Roland's acclaimed Tube Logic approach, the GT-1000's comprehensive AIRD system brings unparalleled musical response and flexibility to a digital guitar processor. AIRD amplifiers live and breathe like real tube amps, providing inspiring feel and authentic tonal dynamics that were previously unattainable in a digital processor. Sophisticated AIRD Output Select functionality takes things even further, letting you achieve consistently great sound with any setup, from standard guitar amps to full-range playback systems.
Highly Expressive Amplifiers and Cutting-Edge Effects
The GT-1000 features a wide range of BOSS original amplifiers suitable for all guitar styles, from super-clean to ultraheavy. Classic tube amps throughout history are included as well, from coveted vintage combos to modern high-gain heads. As expected from a flagship Boss processor, the GT-1000 is loaded with all types of effects, from overdrives and distortions to specialty effects like Slicer, Slow Gear and many others.
Optimized for Every Application
AIRD enables the GT-1000 to smoothly integrate into any creative setup, allowing you to enjoy great tone and response with minimal adjustments. By choosing from a large selection of AIRD Output Select types, you can perfectly tailor the GT-1000 for any destination, whether it's a guitar amp input, an amp effects return or a full-range monitoring system.
A True All-in-One Tonal Solution
With immense power in a streamlined pro design, the BOSS GT-1000 is a game changer that brings new levels of creative expression to all guitarists. Hook it up to your computer via USB for direct recording and deep editing. Place it on the floor as a streamlined pedalboard replacement. Use its dual effects loops, control outputs and MIDI to manipulate your entire rig. Or send your tone straight to the house for an all-in-one rig replacement. The GT-1000—a revolutionary multi-effects unit with unparalleled musical responsiveness for guitarists and bassists alike.
Firmware 4.0. Update
The free GT-1000 Version 4.0 and GT-1000CORE Version 2.0 updates bring even more creative features to the GT-1000 platform, including three newly developed high-gain guitar amp types that spotlight the continuing evolution of BOSS' advanced AIRD and MDP technologies:
X-Ultra—Inspired by a classic British stack amp modified with a modern multi-stage gain circuit. MDP provides intelligent control of the clipping in each gain stage, realizing extended dynamic response that’s not possible with traditional analog designs.X-Optima—With many high-gain tube amplifiers, it can be difficult to strike the ideal tonal balance between chords and single notes. X-Optima features an innovative new gain algorithm that takes full advantage of MDP’s adaptive frequency shaping, providing well-defined rhythm sounds and rich lead tones that sit perfectly in every mix.
X-Titan—This articulate amp type is perfect for aggressive metal styles driven by heavy riffs. MDP delivers sharp, tight sounds on the low strings while retaining fatness and body in the high ranges, making it well-suited for down tunings and extended-range guitars with seven or eight strings.
This update also includes six new bass preamps, two new drive effects and more.

Great Tone with Versatility Without Being Overwhelming
The GT-1000 is the perfect solution for me (I now play in a worship band and needed something versatile and portable). The sound is incredibly realistic and dynamically expressive without needing to tweak for days. I can go from blues to rock to metal, and I've found myself actually using the neck pickup more often for rock music because I like the tone. The computer software is not flashy, but I've come to enjoy the simplicity in appearance. Navigating on the unit itself reminds me of an old digital Tascam recorder/mixer I owned, so I got the hang of it pretty quickly. I really enjoy having 5 patch switches with 3 optional on/off stomp switches per patch—it gives me a lot of options on stage. In terms of amp models and effects, the GT-1000 doesn't bludgeon you with choices like L6 and Fractal, and I rather like that. I typically just find one or two amp models and a basic delay and reverb, and I use that as the basis for every patch. I did load some impulses, but haven't used them because I've found the AIRD technology to be very versatile in dialing in the right feel. I will say that there is a learning curve to discovering the responsiveness of the parameters for every amp, effect, cab, and especially the mic configuration, and you really have to spend time with the unit to get the full potential. Regarding the physical build, I love the compact size, and the look overall is super sleek. It's sturdy without weighing too much, so you won't easily kick it around on stage, and it isn't a bear to transport. As a last note, I A/B'ed this with my friend's Axe FX III, and while Fractal will blow you out of the water with tweaking options (if you're into that), I found the sound to be just as realistic on the GT-1000, and my Fractal-homer friend reluctantly acknowledged that the GT-1000 can hold its own. I do think that the Axe FX III is "the best" sounding amp modeler, but the GT-1000 is in the same ballpark and is an excellent value proposition in comparison.

A little too much for what you get
Background: I've played for 25 years & have built a serious home studio. I own dozens of pedals and a wide range of guitars & amps. Rig: I tried an American Std Strat & Baja Tele through this. I sent it through a '68 Custom Princeton Reverb & I also tried recording straight through the USB. Thoughts: There are some cool tones in this thing, but you can lump 80% of the pre-programmed patches into two categories. Stupid high gain or Lush Reverb Synth Pad. Virtually every "synth" sound seems to trail off to a high pitched sound. The first time you hear it, you're like..oooo that's cool! Then you realize it's difficult to get those ambience sounds without getting the high pitched stuff... then it gets old. As for high gain... man... how many different ways do I need this thing to scream at me? As for tone, overall it sounds okay straight or through an amp. However, there seem to be minor but distracting artifacts in many of the sounds. A lot of the amp simulators don't feel "natural." There are Sag, Presence and Resonance settings that do help with that to an extent, but I just had a hard time getting the feel I was looking for. BTW, I think a lot of the artifacts I'm hearing are occurring because every single patch is set way too bright. While crystal clarity is nice sometimes, more often that not, you are really seeking a warm tone. One major, but fixable, complaint: Whoever programmed this thing never bothered to try to normalize the output of the preset patches. That means that you will have a patch that's super quiet that makes you turn everything up. Then you switch channels (either on purpose or by accident) and the very next patch is set to sonic boom aural destructing speaker shredder! That's bad planning on Boss's part. You could go through and readjust output levels on all 50 patches, but you shouldn't have to! As it stands, it is NOT a pleasant experience to "explore" this pedal, and ultimately this may be why I return it.

I didn't really need to have the #sweepstakes carrot offered up to write a review. However, since you offered he we go. I have collected amps and pedals over the years, and had "Frankensteined" my pedal case to accommodate different sizes and even my Wah. Pedals came and went, and then I had so many that I needed yet another case. When I saw an email from GC about new gear, I was in the searching mode for a pedal solution anyway. Id did my online research and was sold. I took all but one of my amps and all the pedals to my buddy's guitar/record/amp/guitar repair shop and put them on consignment. I played a gig just last week with the new rig, with no amp, going right into the PA. It took a little bit to work out the bugs but once I did it was an amazing tool. Thanks so much.
So far it is work in progress.

The sound is great but they dropped the ball when it comes to ease of use. It is definitely for tech savvy people and it takes a lot to get where you wanna go. Personnally I would but the HR Prime over this . I was excited to get it but now dread using it
Not as good as the reviewers presented

Tone is decent. UI is ok. Pitch shifter is horrible if you go more than a step up or down. Unit is very noisy and the noise gates are bad (tone killers with bad release algorithms) This unit shoudl be 500 bucks new. It's not flagship level.
Way better than the GX100

Reviews online insist that the GX100 and the GT1000 practically sound the same and that's not the case at all.. the gx is flat and the gt is full and spectacular. Pay the extra if you can. . Only issue is learning the way it operates but it's easy after a while
I WOULD BY IT AGAIN

Does it work for bass guitar? In the past I had a board for bass then one for guitar. I'd like one pedal board (like this) that can easily work for both without changing sound quality
Tes, the GT-1000 is good for bass.submitted3 years ago

I've watched a lot of videos on YouTube on the GT 100. Is there a whole lot of difference between the 1000 and the 100? The only thing I haven't found out is if the 100 has an Acoustic Simulation like this 1000 has or if the 100 can be set up to a Stompbox mode like the 1000. I'd really love some advice!! Thanks
Among the chief differences will be the GT-1000 has a 32 bit AD/DA and 96 kHz sampling rate. This will greatly increase the dynamics available in the tone and responsiveness. The amp modeling is going to be of a higher quality and react more closely to how a tube amp would respond.submitted6 years ago

Do the delay options include the ability to program in delay time in milliseconds? And then to save that time as a preset?
Yes to both of your questions.
