My old Haffler Transnova studio amp finally broke down after more than 20 years of nearly daily use. I needed a replacement. The SLA1 is a good fit. Its performance is very similar to the Haffler's. I would say the Haffler's sound was a bit more focused, while the SLA1 is a bit more transparent and articulate. I think I could tell them apart in a blind test, but it would be difficult. My only (minor) complaint is that the fan buzzes a bit when it's on. I'll probably put up a baffle to screen it off. On the whole, I am very pleased.

I was looking for an affordable, single space, light, rack mountable amp to power our stage monitors from our un-powered mixer. After doing a little research I chose the ART Sla1. Upon testing the amp I was very impressed with the headroom and flatness of the sound. I got to use it at an outdoor park venue powering two 15 inch stage monitors very successfully. I tested the amp with two 8 ohm bottoms and a Sansamp Tech 21 with my bass and found it to sound excellent. Bridged, it would probably make a great small venue Bass amp with the right preamp. I feel that this amp would be sufficient to power mains at a small venue with an un-powered mixer without any trouble at all. The only complaint is the lack of 1/4 jacks for the output as your only option is the binding post/ banana plug. Very solid little amp!

This amp has loads of great features. One of favorites is the retractable controls. You can push in the volume controls so that they don't move from their positions during performance or while transporting. Plus, there is an additional tamper cover that can be placed over the front that can only be removed with a phillips screwdriver. Same goes with the stereo/mono switch on the back and the ground lift switch. Heavy duty casing...this thing is like a rock! Really bright blue LED on the front shows you've got power and signal meter LED show you've got signal. The only additional feature that would be nice to have is an actual level meter for each channel, but you could find that in higher priced amps.
