Fender is making waves with their California Series, adding a fresh line of steel-string acoustic/electric guitars inspired by the beautiful Southern California beaches close to the Fender factory in Corona. The three body-shapes released are the Redondo, an original contoured dreadnought; the Newporter, Fender’s own mid-size concert design; and the Malibu, Fender’s original small-body design with a 24" scale length. These guitars firmly establish themselves by emphasizing a great build, expertly voiced tone, bold look and easy playing experience. You’ll find comfortable necks with matching painted six-in-line Fender-style headstocks, pro-grade electronics, and color options that set them apart from traditional natural-top acoustics of the past. The California Series breaks out into three build levels: the California Classic, the California Special and the California Player.
The California Classic
The Classics are the best-in-class for this series, featuring painted tops that complement their natural back and sides, and upgrades such as koa binding and rosette. Fender worked with Fishman to cultivate a premium electronics system, which makes the California Classic great for any environment from the studio to the stage. Constructed with a solid Sitka spruce top and solid mahogany back and sides, you’ll find these guitars presented in striking finishes like Hot Red Metallic and Cosmic Turquois. All models include a Fender gig bag for ease of transport.
The California Special
The Special features the same tonewood pairing and Fishman preamp as the Classic, but featuring maple binding and rosette. One standout finish from this line is the all-around satin black. It really pops on the larger Redondo Special body. Â With just a slight difference from the Classics, the California Specials deliver perfect performance for acoustic and electric players who enjoy the comfortable shape of Fender-style necks.
The California Player
A true player’s model, California Player guitars resonate through a solid spruce top and layered mahogany back and sides. When plugged in, the Fishman and Fender-collaborated performance electronics sing through any live speaker or recording interface. Explore the gloss metallic finish options, from classic Black and Candy Apple Red to a modern Champagne and Rustic Copper, all bound with crème binding. These guitars are perfect for those looking for a solid upgrade from previous Fender acoustic models like the FA, CD or DG series. All models come with a Fender gig bag, so you can take it to the show with ease.
