Mass Appeal’s Rhythm Roulette challenges producers to make beats out of samples found on three random records, which they choose from the bins of a local record store while blindfolded. Seeing these producers create on-the-fly gives a great view into how their musical minds work, as well as their technical flow in the studio.
In this episode, super-producer Hit-Boy, whose credits include hits with Jay-Z, Kanye West, Beyonce, Kendrick Lamar, Rihanna, Nipsey Hussle, and many more, snags the records from the iconic Amoeba Music on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles.
Auditioning and sampling the records with a Pioneer PLX-1000Â turntable and DJM-900NXS2 mixer, Hit chops, warps, and loops the samples in FL Studio, and adds in accompanying instruments with an Alesis V49 Keyboard Controller. AÂ Universal Audio Apollo Twin interface handles all the ins-and-outs.
As long-time fans of the series, we couldn’t be more excited to present this special Guitar Center Edition of Rhythm Roulette with Hit-Boy:
